If JJ and Bowman don’t do this deferred payment cap f***ery I would consider it a huge fail when it comes to be “best in class”.

f***in get it done Jackson. Then do the same for McDavid and Bouchard. The solution to all our problems is staring us right in the face! Do it before the NHL closes the loop hole.
You're aware that a player has to agree to this right?

Most players want the most money as early as possible.

Hoping the Oilers are looking at Tulsky’s work in Carolina and realizing he just solved there and Drais negotiation gap.

That sort of ignores TK's point. His point was that just because it doesn't happen it doesn't make it a fail on management. You need both sides wanting it.
Assuming they even attempt it. If they don’t it’s a fail of negligence. If they try and fail, it’s a negotiation fail that can be excused away as Drai not being able to be convinced or whatever.

Well obviously but if they can find a way to give him most of his money in the first 5 years of the contract via large signing bonuses and whatnot, maybe he’ll agree to deferring some at the end of it
He gets 14+ million
The team gets a cap savings of like 500k

It’s one way to make it look like he’s “taking less for the team”

Is there a limit on how much you can front load a contract?

Could you do something like give Draisaitl 80 million in the first 4 years and 30 million in year 9?

Doing this for Leon and Connor specifically would help to lessen the advantage that teams like Colorado have in terms of having their core guys locked in on good deals for at least a handful more years. Bouch IMO hasn't gotten his turn at the trough so I don't think that he'd entertain such a deal.

10M x 8 years with deferred bonus payments equaling 40M for a grand total of 120M.

Low cap hit for the team while Draisaitl is made whole for his previous contract which underpaid him by 30%.

This sounds about right and is perfectly legal within the CBA and it doesn't overly take advantage of the regulations of the CBA because a 10M cap hit is still a substantial percentage of the cap ceiling now and moving forward.

Yep
The whole AAV discussion is rather different after today’s revelations
Could not have come at a better time for us
The first reasonable thing you've said all day.

As long as the AAV to bonus ratio isn't outlandish the owners and the players win... Canadian teams will finally get their first real shot under the current regime.

The players have to want to do this and have their money deferred. I can see why a lot of guys wouldn't do this and rather have the money upfront. Can't wait for every time a player doesn't do this that management is blamed.

I mentioned this in the other thread too
Now Seravalli is saying Draisaitl won't be taking a discount and that $14 million is "the starting point" and "will be an AAV record setter"
Last week Seravalli was saying the Habs were close to being a cup contender after they acquired Laine. It’s getting harder and harder to take him seriously on anything anymore.

Get Draisaitl and Bouchard done at the same time and take advantage of it before the league finds a way to put a stop to it when suddenly all the big contracts get deferred money.
