The real discussion here is how insane Aho+Guentzel would be on the same line. Potential for the best top-line scoring punch in Carolina that I can remember, maybe ever.
Ya I think Guentzel puts them into the cup discussion. I'm a river boat gambler by nature who would go for it...but they are calculated and cautious.

I still don't see him down there.

The only wrong doing your organization committed was losing the Whalers name/logo.

Your team can hoard prospects and regenerate sans big trades if you want. Everyone has their way to compete.

Vegas is the model franchise if we all are honest with ourselves. Which is insane with them being brand new. Makes us all look like chumps.
The irony of your vegas argument is Vegas doesn’t do big rentals either

Your center depth was stacked in those days for sure, but I'm not sure Justin Williams - even at his peak - touches Jake Guentzel. If you can name a better winger you've had I'm all ears
31 goals and a better 2 way game? I think so

Na they go for it. They wheel and deal for impact players and use the cap to their advantage better than anyone.

...they just nabbed Hanifin and are still cooking. You must be on edge cause I didn't say rental. They make big trades and don't care about attachments. Just retooling every year to put themselves back into the cup running.

Why is it wrong? Because you don’t like they don’t spend on rentals?

Based on you using this “fact” as a point to this argument says enough about the legitimacy about the argument

Are the penguins a good organization for wasting away a decade of a good core because of poor GMs? Or do the cups excuse it?
Because they don’t win! They have made the playoffs only 6 times since their 06 Stanley Cup.

How in gods name would that equate to a “model franchise”?

I am not even saying the Penguins are a “model franchise” just that the Hurricanes simply aren’t.

The point I made was "top-line scoring punch". Either way Guentzel is better than Justin Williams, sorry
Regardless of the "my guys better" people can act like Guentzel isn't a certified offensive catalyst. The below speaks volumes to his skillet. To be fair as most know Crosby banked 300 of those points off of Jake so it's skewed.

I didn’t make the model statement but your arguments are stuck well in the past and terribly based. Let me know when you have some relevant material

Weird bickering yet again.

Will point out that Carolina has some of the lowest top-6 scoring entering the playoffs this year and ranks middle of the league - like 14th or 15th? overall offensive categories. Hard to argue against targeting goal scoring here.

I think the only clowns are the ones that don't know how leveraging and negotiating trades work.

I do not think that’s sustainble. They will run out of assets eventually, but at least they have a cup to show for it. Remember, only 1 team per conference can make it all the way. Most teams can not go for it year after year. There’s still a risk to what Vegas is doing. They could easily lose in round 1. But like I said, at least they won the cup. Many teams that keep going for it, don’t. Then you become SJ, but no cups to show for it.

Justin Williams being your franchise's best winger is crazy. They should pull the trigger on Jake - acquiring him without moving Nikishin would be huge.

You are right. You didn’t make the model statement. But you chose to engage in the discussion that didn’t involve you and obviously cared enough about what I was saying to jump down my throat about it.

Unsure of what you even mean by arguments are “stuck well in the past”. I would assume you would cut it off since 2018-2019 when they started making the playoffs after missing out on it for almost a decade? We can start there and still see that 5 other franchises won a Stanley cup in that time frame and even more at least made it to a Stanley Cup final.

I’m not even going to entertain this moronic nonsense that they are a “model franchise”.

Results matter in professional sports and the Hurricanes don’t have enough of them to come anywhere close to the claim of “model franchise”.

And more and more teams are buying elsewhere. Not good for Doobers leverage

There is no team that "bought elsewhere" that still cannot make something work. Of course everyone should kick the tires on the best winger available and due diligence.

Again many don't know how these things work.

Because Dreger said something, that has to mean it came out of Dubas' mouth? It's impossible that some other GM put that out or Dreger is just talking out of his ass right?

Being a franchise's best winger shouldn't have any influence in making a move or not making a move. It's irrelevant.

There are a bunch of considerations at play. Does he fit the playing style. Will he gel with teammates. Will he be able to adapt to the Canes man-man and possession style game quickly (many players struggle). Price to acquire. Is there a chance to re-sign. etc..etc..

Whether he'd be the best winger in franchise history for 20 games is irrelevant.

I'm not saying the Canes shouldn't go after him, just that the rationale that he'd be their best ever winger means nothing.
