Well, COL and VEG aren't likely to drop off anytime soon so if you want to wait it out that doesn't guarantee the road gets any easier. Miller is in his 30's.

Rantanen is due for a contract extension in 2 years, in 25-26 and Mittelstadt is due a massive raise this offseason, so they'll almost certainly lose depth. Vegas has Marchessault, Stephenson and Hanifin (If they extend him) due for some pretty big pay raises as well, so they'll lose some depth too. We'll be alright.

The Rangers being in it makes me think they'll push their chips onto the table, Carolina barely missed Meier last year, they killed us in R2 last year but Meier probably makes a difference v Florida with how he was playing in the Carolina v NJ series versus them. Easily the Devils best forward in that series and he missed a game.
Nadeau will do.

So, you guys have a chance at a cup, maybe not a great chance but a chance nonetheless and you wanna wait it out? Other teams can emerge as well in that time.

Vegas is loading up and all you're going to end up trading for at the deadline is a washed up Jason Zucker lol
Wow Mantha and Hanifin the most vanilla and overrated dman. Regardless who we get we still got Zadorov and Lindholm. I could care less that he's struggled the guy has had like 3 practices and has barely spent time on one line. I still think the canes won't take this all the way and I won't be surprised if he ends up in Vancouver. If not there's still a bunch of guys available who will improve the team. Vegas has been 24th in the league since game 13 and unless Hill goes back to his cup run level Vegas is in trouble. They still have no Stone and are only 6 points out of 9th and goaltending has been a big reason why.

We're not waiting it out, as I mentioned earlier we've actually been playing elite 5-on-5 hockey and that's what usually translates into the playoffs, so we have a chance as-is at the cup. We're sitting atop the west, so to say we're waiting it out isn't right.

Mantha is a defensemen? Are you referring to Moe Mantha?

I'm glad the pens went for it nearly every year during the Crosby/Malkin era. Traded 8 of their last 12 first round picks. Crazy how risk averse some of these teams are. Only way to win multiple cups is to put yourself in a position to succeed every year. Tampa understood that as well.

That may be, but of late you guys are struggling, and good teams within your conference as you alluded to are improving. Just sayin.

100%!!! You hit the nail on the head cochise! We mortgaged our future for well over a decade, sometimes it worked, other times not so much, but the Cups made it all worthwhile.

The struggles have mainly been a result of a shitty power play. We had a lethal power play last season and for the 1st half of this season that just started struggling recently, it's not a personnel issue. Teams getting better is why we don't feel the pressure to go all-in, the west is going to be a blood bath this year. If this team was performing like this last season, with how wide open the west was it would've made sense to go for it then. If we were in the east it would've made sense to go for it this year too. But, the circumstances are the circumstances.

Better to just give up then. It's easier that way.

Again, it's not giving up. We'll be making some sort of move (hopefully not Zucker), but with the price being what it is for Guentzel + with the west being what it is, it just makes 0 sense for us to pony up and trade either a 2025 1st or Hoglander (Assuming the other portion gets covered with a Lindholm trade)

I'm gonna make a prediction, and you can quote me on this. I think an eastern team wins the cup. And if they don't sustain any major injuries to key players the obvious pick is FLA, they have everything and can beat you every which way.

And on that trade you mentioned, either a '25 1st OR Hoglander? It'd have to be both, and maybe another lesser piece. If it were just one of them Jake would be a Canuck, no has to be both if not a bit more.

People said this about Boston last year and they lost round 1, the playoffs are too unpredictable. The Islanders could get in and go on an absurd run

VAN could win the cup. A month or so ago they were the slight favorite I believe

Vancouver was on an absurd PDO bender and falling a bit back to Earth. The West might be an utter dogfight this year where the team that wins is gonna limp into the Cup Final. East is mudded as well but there's definitely 2-3 teams on everyone's radar, anyone can win the West imo besides the wild cards

Problem is FLA might be the best team, but the next three or four reside in the west. Not necessarily reflected in their record but talent wise the west is gonna be tough.

It's avoiding an arms race because you think the west is too tough, so it kind of is conceding to Vegas and Colorado. Do you expect JT Miller and Boeser to repeat their seasons next year? Everything has been going right this year for Vancouver. I would think you'd want them to go for it.

It's clear the Canuck fans aren't aligned with their front office. JR is a riverboat Gambler. IF they're lucky he and Alvin will push for something substantial. Very much in their nature.

Not every team has the luxury of a Crosby and Malkin lol. The Pens had two generational, HOF level players, in their prime at the same time. It’s a lot easier to be “risk adverse” when those 2 have the ability to drag beer leaguers to the playoffs on their own.

Fair point, and it's a great head start, but McDavid and DRAI reside in EDM. Two phenoms that haven't won. You still gotta ice a competitive team around them. If not, then you end up like EDM. High end talent beyond compare. But if you don't win then it's kind of a waste of generational talents. PIT didn't waste that talent and in fact fortified it with some Brazen moves.

We had so much depth we won in '17 without Kris Letang for every game with injury, and our starting goalie was injured 1st half of the playoffs.

Dubas acting like the AI in NHL24 when I offer like 6 first round picks for a Top 6 wing.

Jesus man piss or get off the pot.

Also if Vegas lands him there is no God.
What value does a package of Mikheyev, Raty and a late 2nd round pick bring to the Penguins, who will be in limbo for the next 3 years until Sid retires?

This is the first trade piece this org has had, since basically Jagr. If we don't get a Lekkerimaki level type return (as a minimum) it's a bust.

There is no point to trading him for a bunch of nonessential Vancouver Canucks players. Might as well offer him his 64 million dollars and trade him in a few years wherever he wants.
