Guelph Storm 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

How many mistakes does a certain defenseman need to make before you need to make him a healthy scratch. At times he reminds me of another defenseman that was more concerned about points than supporting his team.
I’m going to take a wild guess that the certain defenseman you are referring to was a -2 on Friday night despite scoring a goal?

Watching the Sting-Storm game on TV right now. I think I found a new leading contender for the most homer announcers in the league today…even with the replays I can’t figure out what they are seeing most of the time. Fake news.

The Storm has been getting phenomenal attendance despite the bottom of the standings year. Any thoughts on what is bringing in the crowds? From my perspective, I like the second intermission musical entertainment. The earlier times are more accommodating to my and other's schedules.

You would be correct
Watching Storm at Flint tonight and that certain defenseman has been constantly out of position, jumping up when he has no business doing so and has turned over or caused odd man rushes at least four times in the second period alone. Worst part is he doesn’t even skate hard back to try and fix his mistake - just gives up and suddenly can’t skate to save his life. Ineffective in his own zone - just waves his stick around with one hand on it. He has to go. Look to replace him next year - shouldn’t be difficult.

Rant over (but not likely)

I think it’s a combination of things - more promos including ticket + swag packages, in-game entertainment for kids, and probably moreover, the constant increase in the population of Guelph. The game time changes have also likely helped as you mentioned. For me, I keep going because I like watching the growth of the young core knowing I’ll be rewarded over the next couple of years. Every go for it year has required enduring a stinker or two of a season in the lead-up to it.

LMFAO. You do realize he is playing forward tonight, right?

Actually, no I didn’t - I tuned in late and didn’t catch it. All I saw was every time he had the puck or was going for it, he lost it and caused a turnover. Thanks for pointing that out.

My comments in general though apply to most other games where he is on D. Maybe they will try converting him to a forward for next year then - but there is no way he should return as a D-man - that experiment is over. If I was the only one that felt that way I could see being pointed out for piling on the player. But I see a lot of comments in other places and hear a lot of the same comments at the games and it puzzles me how the coaching staff seem to not be noticing it.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

With Owen Sound not playing George, and losing tonight, it looks like they believe tomorrow night will be an easy win for them.

Hopefully the Storm will come out fired up to be a spoiler and put the Attack's playoff hopes in jeopardy.

Pressure is now all on the Attack in this must win game.

No we don’t lol. It was the plan days ago to start the backup tonight.. it’s a 3 in 3 for us. Had a I play him at some point.

May have been the plan but by not playing your best tonight, the decision was made to hope for the best tonight and go all in for the win tomorrow.

While Koprosky played well, odds are George may have been the difference to getting the needed point or two.

Also I would be shocked if George wouldn't want to play a 3 in 3 if necesary with the season on the line.

Based on the podcast I recently saw with George Burnett, he says they want to get bigger. Finally, they maybe seeing the light. If he's honest, then that would rule out Cameron Warren. I hope they take either Delisle, Murata or Wycisk.

People on the draft thread are saying it will be Wycisk. If Katzin and Luchanko are back, could look something like...

Katzin Luchanko Paquette
McLean Stevens Wycisk
McFadden/Snelgrove/Import
Serlin plus 2nd rounders/whoever steps up.....

We have room for 2 OA's. Our two 2nd rounders as well as at least one OA will likely be forwards. With our glut of picks, George has a chance to add nicely to this group as well. Hope all the boys work hard this off season.

If you are right, I hope in the second round they take his linemate from his U16 team, he's rated early to mid second round. Would have instant chemistry next year.

Which one E Edgar 5 9, Lappalainen 5 11 or
Lisi 5 9? They are all rated early to mid second round.
There should be a few very good 6 footers available at # 25.

If chatter on the Niagara boards is correct, I really hope that George is in on the discussion for players that want out. Adding Roobroeck would significantly improve the rebuild.

Fortunately we have excess draft capital which provides the flexibility to take advantage of these situations.

I don't think the need to get bigger should outweigh taking the best player available, espicially with a 2nd overall pick. If they think Warren is BPA, he should be the pick.

In the second and third rounds, sure, because draft boards likely have more guys grouped more evenly.

I think there is so much parity this year that BPA is a matter of opinion. Their opinion is Wycisk, I'm sure not just because of size.

I expect our top 2 picks and probably all 3 will have been ranked in 1st round by one or more of the services.
Do we think 3 F's and then a D and F in the 3rd round?

I think the first few rounds will definitely be all forwards. They can afford to with 7 returning D plus a couple in the system (Morris was an '08 call up.)
It's a good thing too since the forward depth of this draft far exceeds the defense.

I would disagree, we are getting pushed around by much bigger teams. We don't stand a chance against London and Kitchener Dmen. Most are quite big. I agree with your point about skill, but would like to see size too.
