Plus, I've been told by more than one person there is more to come with the OA and Import Positions. We will see!
With Merkley gone looks like you need an upgrade on D, a first liner capable of generating both offense and defense. There are many available, but almost exclusively OA.

That begs the question, which of your OA is expendible? Poirier I assume? Trade him plus picks for an OA defenseman?

Also, an upgrade on import would mean Toropchenko goes? Would you target Leufvenius from Sarnia?

hey Slick;.. As I've postulated .. ..since season beginning... the issues were many and the rot was deep.. I still believe a number of people wanted out even pre season..and agents were soured ..and parents perhaps as well.. this team is free now of the (IMO) chaos revolving around 6 who was way too much affecting the play of others and undeserving of both "star"..status ..and too immature up to this time..to be the locus of a team..they will begin to rise now to their individual potentials as a team... Its obvious.. the results speak for themselves... more issues still fester but overall I wish TAG and Primeau success.... and under good direction... ...over time ... Merkley too........................................... A new C/GM would help ..

Playing GOGO with Torop may bring out the best in Toropchenko.... but too... it may flatten Gogolevs tires a bit..I would find a Semyon Der Argh type forward..to replace Torop...

If Toropchenko is on a resurgence, maybe you keep Toropchenko and look at dealing a younger player for a non-import playmaker to play alongside Gogolev? If your import spots are set, but you are still looking to add a playmaking forward and a first line OA defenseman, then you would probably be dealing an OA forward (Poirer) plus a young defenseman (Woolley / Chayka) plus picks for those two pieces.

There are multiple options for you out there:
Hamilton - Strome & Mattinen (OA)
Sarnia - Ruzicka & Eliot (OA)
Barrie - Chiodo (OA) & Keane
Kitchener - Meireles & Garreffa
Owen Sound - Hancock & Durzi (OA)
Sault Ste. Marie - Frost & Hollowell (OA)

Happy shopping.

I don't know, I'm not the GM. I'm just telling you want I heard :)

That said, this team needed an upgrade on D before the trade, now the hole is even more glaring. Need someone who can work the PP. Maybe Sammy when he comes back? Couple of the young guys might be able to handle it, but I don't see Curious George trusting rooking over vets, no matter how obvious the decision may be.

As for an import, who knows. What about that kid that went to Flint from London? Like I said, I don't know. I'm just repeating what I heard. Could be nothing.

You know, you and I think more alike that it seems. You've got a lot of opinion I think I can get behind, it just got way too clouded by hate (my word not yours) as the season(s) went on. It's clear that this change is going to help the team. How much and to what end are still TBD, even after a nice weekend.

If Tag quit on this team, I don't really care if he succeeds elsewhere or not. If there are circumstances which have legitimately led him to this position, I'd be willing to reconsider....but not liking your teammate(s) or coach is not a good enough reason to quit on your team. Shows (lack of) character and frankly if that's true, the team will be better off without him. Same for Primeau. Good for him for putting together a nice season after the trade, but that's where the compliments stop. From all accounts he bailed on this teams cause he didn't like the circumstances (which eventually changed) and that's not someone I'd want to battle shoulder to shoulder with. Reeks of entitlement and weakness.

Let's see what else shakes out. Maybe I'll finally get my Christmas gift - GMGB relinquishing his coaching duties. Fingers crossed!

Tag Bertuzzi traded to Hamilton for a 2nd and two 3rds.
Disappointing a player isnt coming the other way however I would imagine his value is way down at the moment due to his production and the fact that he left the team before hand so Guelph lost a ton of leverage.

More picks are never a bad thing to have. Big splash when drafted, but never panned out here. Hope for the best in Hamilton, but not in the next two games!

Did anyone go to home opener fest? What was the free food? Thinking of going to holiday fest

After 3 wins and 20 goals I'm still not convinced. This team could very well be in huge trouble, right now they look good because they played some backup goalies who couldn't stop a beach ball in slow motion. If you replace Stevenson and Hawels weekend with their season average it's not all peaches and roses. Hills could possibly be out for a long period of time as well, losing our current 1C.
The good news is that the call-ups all played well. McFarlane and Profaca are players, Papais had some solid scoring chances too.
I was under the impression tthat Gogol was an import which made the Merkley deal ranging from bad to god awful but he isn't and did look dangerous Saturday.
I appreciate Burnette as a GM but my god do we need a coach, Getting red hot against backup goalies will only help convince Ownership to not even bother.

No offense but....

You can have all the draft picks you want but if you don't have the prospects to trade, you aren't getting the big fish.

I can appreciate a GM stock piling picks. However, Bertuzzi and Primeau should have been used a chips to sweeten deals.

I don't want to hear the classic "They forced the hand" excuse.

If you ask me, GB should have done a better job communicating with these guys.

Just my opinion.

bulldog... yup!.. pefect image for what I see in Tag as time goes on.. next year I see him stapling guys to the boards and having a bit of a mean streak..maybe never a big scorer but I'd hate to be lookin at him comin down the ice at me next year.. Best of success Tag..

The player resource mismanagement in Guelph is atrocious. An OHL team essentially needs to hit on 5 decent players per year; which you depend on from priority selection rounds 1-5.
Once the 2015 draft year leaves (only Ratcliffe and Schnarr were round 1-5 Storm picks), Hillis and Wooley are the only veterans that were expected from the high end of the draft.
2 players from the top 5 rounds of 2016 and 2017 is not good enough. Gogolev and Poirier are the only returns from the player trades.
Despite years of poor seasons following 2014, this team is set up to once again bottom out and hope that there is some true depth in their 2018 draft picks.

Right on Norman- let's expand your post with the top 6 picks from the last 4 drafts
2015- Ratcliffe, Stevens, Deakin-Poot, Schnarr, Hanna, Farance ;2 remain
2016- Merkley, Hillis, Moncada, Wilson-Berles, Doyle, Stevenson; 2 remain
2017- Bertuzzi, Primeau, Aguanno, Woolley, Golovatchev, Jackson; 1 remains
2018- Chayka, Terry, Collins, Smith, Bennett, Walker; 3 remain

So ignoring the 16 year olds from the last draft, we still have 5 of our top 18 picks with not much to show for the rest. Not very impressive IMO.
Is the picks or the lack of development? Or both?

2014-Poirier 1st pick, 2015-Hawel 1st pick, 2016-Gogolev & Lalonde-1st picks ... suddenly lots of extra picks to use for acquiring players to go on a long playoff run. It doesn’t matter where where the players of a contender were picked/traded as long as the team gets better, right?

the last 3 year cycle was a bust...the enigma virus.... can we expect anything different from this mgmt ownership group..not likely.
