Reaves Suspension
  • Thought it would be more than Jeannot
  • Sees this as a worse hit than Jeannot on Boeser and Reaves has been suspended before
  • Only question was whether it was going to be an in-person hearing
Salary Cap
  • League has been fortunate and the revenues have been good
  • Some worry about the USA local television deals
  • Other revenues around the league have been very good
  • Supposed to be a 50/50 revenue split between league and players; this was changed a bit during COVID and if it was still 50/50 then the cap would be over 100m
  • NHL knows that the cap will take a big jump when a new CBA is negotiated
  • The league and NHLPA could look to smooth out the cap increases
  • Players support the idea of smoothing it out
  • Possible to get the new CBA done early
  • Believes there will be a conversation about the cap increasing to around 97m next season
Canucks
  • More has been asked of Lankine and Silovs than was expected
  • Demko injury isn’t linear
  • Doesn’t sense the Canucks are panicking but the team doesn’t like how they are playing
  • Does think they will address the defence at some point
  • A lot of problems can be solved by a lot of people playing better and he thinks that’s the way the Canucks look at it
  • Question is how long do they wait
  • Jim Rutherford likes to get a jump on the trade deadline
  • Canucks are definitely looking around
  • Calls the Canucks “impatient” and “annoyed”
Boeser
  • Describes the injury as a “head/whiplash thing”
  • Not a linear injury
  • Have to wait until he feels okay
  • Canucks are not going to rush anyone back from injury
  • Has been told when you have that concussion-esque, whiplash-esque sort of thing you have to let it play out
  • Once he starts skating it will be another week or two before he gets back and he hasn’t started skating
Trade Market
  • Thinks things are picking up a little bit
  • Predators really want “to do some stuff”; looking for a high level centre and defenceman
  • Lots of talk between teams but not sure of the amount of actions
  • Canucks, Predators, and Blackhawks have been very active in talking to team
  • Blackhawks are trying to find Bedard help
  • Cap is still an issue for teams
Kaprizov and the Wild
  • Will become one of the highest paid players in the league
  • Wild prepared him more than anyone else
Miller
  • Not surprised he got benched before others because Miller can handle it
  • Canucks feel he’s a little bit better when he’s pissed off and mad at the world
  • Thinks he’s bang up a bit
  • Get the sense that rattling his cage every once-in-a-while is good for him
  • When he gets benched it also gets other players attention
  • Tocchet has had enough of the way this team has started the year

Wonder if the Wild are going to offer a max deal to Kaprizov. There are 32 other teams that would offer the moon.

I don't know why, but I am getting Nate Schmidt vibes from these Pettersson Pittsburgh rumours.

Someone please allay my concerns, I can't say I've watched him a ton.
