Myers is turning 35. He was erratic and often subpar during his previous 6 years here (aside from 2-3 stretches where he looked decent). Was largely used as a 5th D in Winnipeg back in 2018. It was just a horrendous mistake by Allvin.
Don't have to tell me. I've been as low on Myers as anyone...ever...going back to his Winnipeg days.

He had one half decent season and people kinda memory-holed his career. A 3 year deal for him was a huge mistake.

For what 20 games last season plus the Oilers series.
He was quite good last season, yeah.

He's also graded out quite well in Seattle, albeit with easier deployment.

Hall on being a healthy scratch against the Canucks

thanks. if i read that correctly 5 out of 6 of the defence is above average in clearing the zone with possession, and the team looks pretty average overall for clearings.

you're misreading it i think. five out of six of the defenders clear the zone without possession more than average. ie, just dump it out to the neutral zone where there's either a scrum or an outright turnover. only quinn hughes is above average at exits where the team retains possession

the entire defense save hughes and desharnais (but huge asterisk on this one, see below) is below average at succeeding at exit attempts (altho hronek is just barely so)

desharnais' stats look okay here but they come with the caveat they he just doesn't make plays. he has the lowest retrieval and exit attempts for the entire defense

as a team, the canucks rank in the bottom five for all these measures. while they don't have anyone truly terrible they only have hughes who is above average. good teams have 3-4 players above average and even bad teams usually have at least two

Pittsburgh Penguins
  • More deals are going to follow the Eller trade
  • Crosby isn’t going anywhere
  • Malkin has no intentions of playing anywhere else
  • Has never got the impression that Letang would be opposed to playing elsewhere
  • Dubas would be happy to move Ryan Graves, Tristan Jarry, and Erik Karlsson but other teams likely aren’t interested
  • Marcus Pettersson is the most likely player to be on the move
  • League sources say the Oilers and Canucks have interest
  • Penguins value replenishing their system more than keeping Pettersson
  • Bryan Rust has a full NTC and suspects he would veto a trade
  • Crosby loves playing with Rust
  • Rust recently purchased Jake Guentzel’s old Pittsburgh home

“Replenishing their system”

Mynio, Klimovich, Desharnais, 2nd for Pettersson with retention

Replenished!

For the first 20 games last season then he got hurt. Came back first 10 were okay getting back up to speed understandable. Then he struggled down the stretch and into to Predators series where there was speculation on here that he was still hurt. But thinking he could play top 4 minutes because of a 20 game sample was asinine by this management.

sorry i see that now. does zone exit with poression mean a zone exit where the dman carries the puck out himself or any exit where the team retains possession? does clearance mean any clearance, or only those without possession?

i just do not see the defence clearing the puck blindly and giving up possession very often as it did constantly under green. they do ice the puck like any team but otherwise in most clearances there is at least a pass attempt to a forward and a contested puck, rather than a blind turnover.

compared to last year i do see some slippage by the forwards in terms of determined board work to finish clearances. i do not see much change on dman clearances.

I'm talking about his career.

myers was ok in the zadorov #5 but playing a lot of minutes so maybe a #4 (idc about the semantics) role in 19-20

also a good first 15 games with oel in 21-22 or w/e when we made that trade

but yeah, more than 50% bad. and the idea that him at a lower cap would make the criticism go away.. also a bad take

needs to play better

Yes. Zone exit with possession means any exit where the team maintains possession. Defenseman could skate it out or pass it out.

Exit just means moving the puck past the blue line. Not necessarily a good thing.

exit with possession is any play where a defenseman gets the puck out of the zone and the next play is a controlled touch is by either that player or a teammate. it can be either a pass or the player carrying the puck over the line themselves. if a player fires it past center and there's a scrum for the puck that's a clear not an exit with possession regardless of which team controls at that point

i said i wasn't going to post all the a3z data for free (go sub, it's good work!) but here's another chart that illustrates how bad vancouver has been at zone exits:

Usually a sign when Friedman and Dhaliwal bounce off eachother and add little specific details.

If that's news worthy then I should get the Nobel Prize for painting up my heavies.

Jokes aside, I wonder if they'd give Pedey a try at the side of GudBrannstrom, or something of that nature. Our bottom 4 is getting their faces chewed up pretty badly, and Pedey is here to help. Not a lot of room to make it worse now is there?

The thing we need most right now is a soft streaky winger. That will put this team over the hump.
