Seravalli interview.
Canucks:
-Allvin trading for a puck moving defenceman is inevitable
-lots of reasons for optimism
-in the meantime, rely on the coaching staff
-now is the time to work with players to get better
-trying to get there B-game on a better level than it is right now
Allvin's Trade Activity:
-a lot of the calls Allvin has made are more related to fact finding and understanding the market
-want to see what their team looks like when healthy
-seeds have been planted
-they understand who is and isn't available
-realize it's an evolving market
-players that aren't available now will become available later
Liljegren Trade:
-Sharks were the team that had the biggest need
-a lot of other teams were curious about acquiring him but weren't willing to commit to his contract
-teams thought there maybe there are players they could get off waivers that could get similar results at a lesser price
Panthers:
-look for players that fit a very specific profile
-uses Uvis Balinskis as an example; says probably 23 teams never heard of him before they signed him
-multiple waiver claims have worked out really well
Forbort, Desharnais, and Defensive Depth Signings:
-would love to know the thought process behind acquiring both of them
-Canucks knew about Desharnais' limitations
-Forbort has been a healthy scratch for big chunks of his NHL time
-compares the Forbort signing to a short-term version of the Oilers' signing Josh Brown
-almost like teams got overexcited during free agency for signing depth defencemen
-wonders if some of these teams would make the same moves again today
-didn't keep Ian Cole because he slowed time at the end of the season and playoffs
-questions whether it was better to sign Cole or Forbort & Desharnais
Defensive Target:
-very much want someone that can carry their own defensive pair according to Shah
Juulsen:
-Seravalli thought he'd be a big bright spot for the team this year and asks Shah and Riccio if that's not been the case
-Shah explains the limitations of Juulsen and how he hasn't taken another step
-Seravalli wonders if that's another bet the Canucks made
Soucy & Myers:
-those two are the elephant in the room
-if they were performing to what they did for parts of last season, the Canucks would probably only be looking for a 3rd pair guy
Predators:
-too early for them to be already concerned with their off-season moves
-numbers tend to point to them being unlucky
-last year he had Trotz on his podcast and they both talked about it was probably going to be 3 years until the Predators are truly competitve
-seems disjointed that they gave out 100m in contracts this summer
-clear roster construction flaw; no centres
-thinks they can be more than a Wild Card team this season
-is concerned about their lack of centres
-if this doesn't work this season, it's going to be very painful 3 seasons from now
4-Nations Rosters:
-Boeser is squarely on the bubble for Team USA
-if Boeser isn't scoring, how else can he contribute?
-need to be more than a good powerplay guy; need to have another attribute
