I wonder which team was the first to throw out a serious trade proposal that got others interested. NJD?

Banana in the tail pipe
It's really irritating that this all should have been done ahead of the 2023 draft and was clearly foreseeable at that time.

We should have had 3 or 4 top ~20 picks in the 2023 draft and we'd probably be in as good or better of a position with the active roster.
Or we could have traded EP40 for Neccas, Kotkaniemi and Morrow. Easy to play this game with the clarity of 20/20 hindsight.

I just know the return is going to suck. I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around this whole thing but I’m still in shock that it has come to this and that he’s likely to be traded in the upcoming days.

Sucks. Like why did it have to come to this. He’s a fan favorite and a hell of a player.

New York doesn’t really excite me as a trade partner like New Jersey does.

Also, wonder who the Canucks A) thought was tampering with their players, and B) which players they thought were being tampered with.
Wondering if all the activity around Miller finally convinced Drury to cave on Schneider…i like him, but not enough to be a centerpiece for Miller though.

Heres the last 6 seasons. Miller is a top 10 player in this league. We aren't going to get that value back in a trade. I really don't wanna trade him. We lose that trade 100% of the time.

You're making a trade for tomorrow, not yesterday. It's a big risk trading JT, but it's also a big risk keeping JT. That's the reality of the situation. We're at a cross-roads either way. Look at Zibanejad, same age, same contract as JT, basically. And like JT, he's been a massive point scorer over the last few seasons. He's only 30 odd behind JT's tally. And I don't think anyone wants to touch Zibanejad's contract because it's clear his career decline has started.

We know what JT is and isn't. We know that when the offensive decline starts, having JT around is probably not going to be good. Do you risk trading him now and trying to get pieces that will hopefully help you into the future, or risk keeping JT around and hope the decline doesn't happen in the next ~two seasons, knowing that if the decline does start, there's basically no chance of getting pieces back and we're probably just as screwed as we would be if we trade JT now and don't nail the return?
