I've heard the coaching staff speak many times about how great of a guy he was in the locker room and that he is very well liked. I don't know why you are starting this.

You just never know in these instances.

It's like Bertuzzi pre-Moore who was adored by the fans and the coaching staff. The coaching staff and media painted him as emotional leader, who in actuality was a hotheaded moron that would take comically bad penalties and ultimately saw the emotions get the best of him. It was later determined he was responsible for the destabilizing the dressing room in 2005-06....

Not saying Miller = Bertuzzi but we will not know the full extent of what the hell is going on until he's traded.

On the bright side, the team is running a league worst PDO since the holiday break. They haven’t been good, basically a bubble playoff team, but they also probably haven’t been as bad as it feels like they’ve been.
The glass half empty take is that since November 7 the Canucks are 28th in score adjusted CF% and 27th in xGF%. Their record over the past 30+ games probably hasn’t been unfair to them.

Miller for Mitts + Ritchie
Boeser for Nemec
Hogs + Kud for Pettersson

DeBrusk-EP-Lekk
Suter-Mitts-Garland
Joshua-Blueger-Sherwood
PDG-Sasson-Heinen

Hughes-Hronek
Pettersson-Nemec
Soucy-Myers
Forbort

Sign Willander after his season and give him a couple games.

Re-sign Pettersson and Suter.

Use the offseason to acquire a scoring W or two by using 1st, Mynio, etc. or sign in FA.

Should be holding the fort, selling some UFAs, and looking to fix things in the summer. Only other consideration, though, is maybe you throw Hughes a bone and try to add some type of defensive depth that isn't too expensive (if that exists, though there have been a few depth defensemen traded so far for reasonable prices).
6 picks this year, 5 picks in a stronger looking draft next season. A prospect pool that's closer to the bottom than the top. They are probably lucky to have Willander/Lekkerimaki coming. Not a full tear down, just a few smart moves.

You are right about Bert being a big grump, and we have all heard there were issues. However, I was responding to allegations that Zadorov was disliked by teammates and if he wasn't in Van, it must be because they didn't get to know him well enough yet. This kinda thing is worse than what Canucks media does that we hate so much.

There are generational talents available in the draft for the next few seasons, but I don't think we will end up at that level with the players that are here. Even if they ship a bunch of pieces off, the truly bad teams in the league are just awful.

McKenna (2026) and Dupont (2027) are both cornerstone pieces to build around for years to come, especially Dupont. What he's doing as a 15/16 year old defenceman is nothing short of ridiculous.

My mistake. I thought it was another JT Miller post.

Yeah, there's really nothing to suggest Zadorov wasn't liked. It's a weird rumor considering we know it all came down to money and term at the end of the day.

I would trade Miller asap if he keeps performing like last night, team needs to know that kind of effort has consequences.

Doing that basically guarantees we're in the no man's land of 8-10th for the next few seasons because nobody's giving us anything of value. Case in point, "Unless VAN is willing to trade him for pennies on the dollar."

There's no point moving Miller just to make us even worse.

This is all a blessing for the Canucks even if they have to sell some players at not max value.

8,000,000 in capspace

11,600,000 in capspace

6,650,000 in capspace

5,000,000 in capspace

Team can do so much if they play their cards right here.

30 million to reallocate PROPERLY.

You think Zadorov was disliked? Or am I missing something.
I think what they imply is that Zadorov was disliked by the opposing teams, taking the spotlight from the Canuck players and letting them just play their game. I also took the spotlight when it came to media, another welcome thing.

Rick Dhaliwal's interview with Halford & Brough this morning.

Miller
  • Doesn’t think he’s 100% healthy, checked out, or has quit on the team
  • Seems like he would rather be anywhere else than doing media
  • Would shut Miller down from media until after the trade deadline
  • This season has been a drain on him and the team realizes it
  • Realize a change is needed and that’s why his name is out there
  • Probably need to move him quicker than originally thought
  • Changing the dynamic of the dressing room would be a whole lot better
  • Miller has not been asked to waive his NMC yet
  • Doesn’t think anything is close on a trade but people around the league feel Miller is the one to get traded and not Pettersson
  • No shortage of teams that like Miller; would be surprise how many management teams love him and want him
  • Thinks the Rangers are still in on Miller
  • Word is Devils are interested in him and the Rangers don’t want him going there
  • Teams calling that we don’t know about
  • More and more people in the league would not be surprised if they trade Miller
  • Team USA loves him and his spot is not in jeopardy; was an early pick
  • There were people in the organization that wanted to sign Horvat over Miller
  • Every mistake he makes is magnified
Management
  • No one likes being publicly humiliated
  • There are some across the league that are baffled that Allvin blasted Pettersson in an article and threatened to trade him
  • The interview backfired on the Canucks
  • Rutherford will figure it out
Boeser
  • Canucks must have some internal deadline to sign him or decide to trade him
  • Maybe Boeser can return a defenceman in a trade
Trading Partners
  • Too many teams in the playoff race
  • A lot of their players are struggling, don’t want to give up Willander or Lekkerimaki, and can’t trade their 1st with where they are in the standings

This right here is what sucks so much about parity. There's maybe five teams in "sell mode". Even then, I think teams like Nashville, Buffalo and Long Island are still deluding themselves into thinking they have a shot.

It really just boggles the mind how Miller can go from his herculean performance last season to this.

Maybe Nemec comes back in a Miller trade to Jersey?

The issue is still fitting under NJ's cap.

I'd love to get Mercer and Nemec out of NJ somehow.

This is a REALLY good team to do a deal with. They have tons of great assets young and NHL roster age right now.

Obviously would lose my **** getting a Simon Nemec type, but we would be eating Palat's contract in that situation.

Wonder if a 1:1 Hamilton for Miller, with retention on Hamilton to make it an 8MM for 8MM swap would make some sense here. Open up their blueline for their many, many young D, get an...emotional veteran player rocket fuel for their forward group.

Wait till this management trades Miller and Canucks get a late round first, Bonino and Sbisa types for him. Lol.
and then throw another 2nd rounder and more assets to get like a guy like Gubranson and extend him..
then trade Willander away for a already bust ..
then trade away Lekk for another already bust ..

sign a 4th liner for like 4M (considering inflation)...

we can go on and and on

they are the ideal target team to work with.

I think Miller is almost certainly dealing with some sort of physical issue that is limiting his effectiveness. His frustration about not being able to do what he normally does may be bleeding into the rest of his play but I have a hard time believing the issue is just behind the scenes issues. You can tell even when he’s trying to make things happen he can’t dominate the way he used to.

Assuming so, the question has to be whether this is something he can get over or if it’s a long-term problem or from age-related decline.

The team has been linked to Dawson Mercer in the past too, but I’m not sure how you even that out.
