I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to accept a full rebuild but, if I were, I could make the argument.

Demko is 29! That seemed to happen overnight. Miller soon to be 32.

The only player I would hold on to for sure is Hughes.
Possibly hold on to Pettersson unless they can get a serious return for him.

Everyone else should be actively on the block. That includes Garland simply because he could likely fetch a decent return: Miller, Boeser, Garland, Joshua (only because he's already 28), Demko, Debrusk, and Hronek. For these players they should be able to get decent prospects + picks. Get what they can for Hoglander and Soucy.

The goal would be to emerge in 2.5 years for the 27/28 season with Hughes signed long term (hopefully he sees enough progress to sign but it is a risk). Pettersson will still be in his prime with term on his contract. All other contracts would have been dumped or have expired by then. OELs 2 highest buyout years will be behind them. Willander and Lekkerimaki will have had 2+ years to develop.

Worry not about winning for this and the next two seasons, achieving 3 top 10 picks, and operating well below the cap. Acquire as many prospects and picks during this period.

With ample cap space they would then be buyers in free agnecy in the summer of 27.

Easy peasy.
Why would Hughes who may be playing at his ceiling stay through a rebuild when he can go to a contender in 2 years.

A conversation nobody wants to have. If you tear it down he should be the first asset you move.

Also, Allvin gonna be shocked when he sees the offer for a 11.6M P Danault

I doubt they want to tear it down though, like let's say they move Miller and even Boeser too. They''ll target young roster players back and futures, and I doubt they're just gonna sit out on those futures. They'll use the cap space and futures at either the TDL or draft week to trade for a player who can help now.

It's more of a roster shuffle than a rebuild. Horvat to Hronek type of moves.

I understand but what player do you anticipate them getting that will be as good as Miller and contribute as much before Quinns contract is over?

The team is about to get much worse after they trade JT

Side note:

If we can find a sucker for Carson Soucy, and some team out there views his contract as a good thing, I'm all for moving him. I didn't expect to say this coming into this season but wow he's been bad this season, and honestly him helping Perry up off the ice in the 3rd period after Perry fell was the last straw for me.

Interview with Rick Dhaliwal on Halford & Brough.

Rick Tocchet
  • You know Pettersson is one of the 5-6 guys Tocchet said didn’t have energy
  • Teams are scoring way too many easy goals and it’s driving Tocchet nuts
  • He looks defeated; running out of answers
  • Really starting to wonder if he wants to come back
Untouchables
  • Hughes is the only untouchable on the roster
  • Rest of the core has lost the right to be called untouchable
  • Haven’t heard about a players only meeting; might need one if they haven’t held one
Ownership
  • Wonders where the owners’ patience is at
  • People are not watching or going to games; knows people are not even taking free tickets to games
Miller
  • Could happen at any time; right now, deadline, summer, etc.
  • Were close last weekend with the Rangers but nothing since
  • Teams keep checking in and are hoping the Canucks take some bad offers; that’s where they’re at
  • Find it really hard to believe that the Canucks will win a Miller trade
  • Can’t just give him away but not dealing from a position of strength
  • A team told Dhaliwal that they can’t get in on Miller now because of their salary situation but can in the summer
  • There will be more teams involved after the season is over
  • A lot of teams are divided on Miller; GMs love him but analytics departments and other staff are pushing back
  • Some teams are asking their leadership groups about Miller
  • Rangers might be the best fit but are on a run and can now be patient
  • Hurricanes are interesting; Hurricanes leaked that they are out and the Canucks leaked that they are still in
  • Tom Dundon, Hurricanes owner, is very hands-on and is always hunting for bargains; can be tough to deal with sometimes because of the owner
  • Tom Dundon is well known for calling agents during contract negotiations and reminding them the low taxes and cost of living in Carolina
  • Devils like Miller a lot but not many believe they can pull of a trade
  • Canucks are not in a position to pull off a salary; no appetite to retain
  • Will have to be creative to get a deal done
  • His agent has made it clear that Miller has not asked for a trade; has got push-back on this; despite the narrative, both sides have a very good working relationship; open dialogue between the Canucks and his agent; has not demanded a trade but both sides are working and Miller is open to a trade
  • The moment you ask for a trade, you become public enemy #1
Pettersson
  • Still listening on Pettersson; doesn’t think he’s out of the woods
  • Goal was to trade one of Pettersson or Miller; doesn’t know which one is going to get traded
  • Has to be a different maker and drive the play
Boeser
  • Canucks want to re-sign him
  • There is a long-term deal there if both sides really work at it
Hoglander
  • Have sewered his confidence and trade value
Demko
  • 16 goals allowed over 4 games
  • 3 goals against in 8 of his 12 games
  • A goalie coach told him that the sharp angle goals coming off the post are goals that didn’t happen before; not sure how much is rust, reads, and quality looks
  • Just not as crisp as he was when he practiced like a madman
  • Goaltending is even more vital and need better starts from him
  • Canucks can’t go cheap on the back-up goalie next season
Rutherford
  • Wants to hear from him; he’s the powerful guy

Probably right, but you have to try while you have a top 5 player in the league in his prime on your team. If they look bad/mid next year by the TDL as well, then the Hughes discussion gets more realistic and interesting to me.

This is all very tiresome for everyone.

It's gone from "nothing gets out of Van" to "everything gets out of Van" from a media perspective.

Now obviously not all of it is true but a good proportion is.

And this is on mgmt with how they have handled everything. Or more frankly speaking, the piss poor job they have done in that regard.

Personally, trade JT/trade EP/trade both, I just so tuned out to a degree I don't care either way.

I just want this team to get back to being enjoyable to watch and follow again.

Man Cam robinson is trying so hard for that twitter revenue

Hey guys......... we're having a tough time finding trade offers for an $8 million AAV cap hit IN SEASON.

so lets try to see if a 45% higher salary in $11.6 is more reasonable in trade.

give me a break, dumbest tweet ive read on here.

soon he is gonna put NHL insider in his bio

Loss to the Oilers
  • Was a statement in the negative direction for the Canucks
  • Tocchet has essentially pointed there next game against the Capitals as a must win
J.T. Miller
  • Is ready to be traded and has signalled to the team that he’s ready to go
  • Play on the ice signals that change is necessary
  • Everyone in the league recognizes the friction, his age, money, and term
  • Teams see the drop off in his play
  • Plenty of teams, beyond the Rangers, have stepped up
  • Hurricanes have been working incredibly hard; have presented a few different potential opportunities for the Canucks; haven’t got it over the finish line
  • Outside of the Rangers, “no one has done more work, on the Miller file, than the Carolina Hurricanes”
  • Does not think he will be Canucks by February 1st; thinks the Canucks have to pull the band-aid off
  • Canucks are 10 good days away from having a chance at locking down a wild card spot and don’t waste a Hughes MVP season

I've prepared myself for the Nucks to acquire KK and Roslovic at this point.

It will not be a true Canucks timeline until Rutherford and Tocchet both depart in the summer and we're left with Nonis 2.0 Allvin running everything.
Tocchet was great for us last season but I don't think he is that unreplaceable. Yeah a new coach might not run the D system as tight as Tocchet but we'll probably end up with something less offensively stifling.
