That NYR deal is about what I'd expect. Hard to really rate it without knowing who the prospect was, but Chytil has put up 20+ goals before, and is on pace again this year.
We're always going to be worse at C after this trade. Someone like Chytil at least let's us have legit middle 6 options behind Petey. If Petey doesn't return to 100 point pace Petey, it doesn't matter. But if he does, maybe Chytil, Suter, Blueger (Sasson, Raty, Aman) is enough to at least stay in the playoffs race for this season.
The 1st probably then gets the Hronek treatment as well, as I don't think the FO will punt on the season this early. Think they'll want to see what some "fresh air" does to the group before they sell off too many pieces.
But for me, if JTM is gone, and writing on the wall is pretty loud at this point, then Brock Boeser should also be gone. Not that I consider them a package deal necessarily, but if we're doing major surgery amyway, then let's just do all the surgery and get faster while resetting the core's age around Petey and Quinn.
If Allvin can turn JTM + BB into a 2(ish)C and a top 4 D + extra assets and cap space then who knows
..maybe the dark clouds part and this team rides Petey-Hughes-Demko to a 2nd wild card spot.
Then head into the offseason with additional trade assets and some cap flexibility. Need to nail the trades, but there's a path to a quick refresh of the top of the roster.
