And I don’t think they offer him up even if they want Miller because I expect they know they can probably put together the best offer without giving him up.
Yep, the idea behind these contenders is to "load up", not load sideways or marginally...they'll offset the cap space with players that will impact their on-ice product the least, and give up futures for value.

I would expect Kotkaniemi and a defensive prospect for Miller given the other leaked offer from NYR, but Necas may not be viewed positively by CAR given his contract situation.

There's no precedent of Carolina making a trade like that... but trading Necas contract volatility for certainty with Miller is certainly a good way to resolve it.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Carolina was willing to do this without any rentention if KK was included. Both JT and KK have 5 years left and difference between the contracts is $3.2M AAV.

It would go against every trade the Hurricanes have made under this ownership.
Except they don't shy away from older players and JTM is a better player than Necas.

Necas had a 25 game (white hot) heater to start the year (shooting 2x his career average) and since has been dogshit (10 points -3 in his last 20. Despite that heater, his share numbers are worst (forwards) on the team and his contract situation is sub optimal. If they could covert him into JTM i think they would in a heartbeat.

lankinen every day at that contract

suter - would lean towards no but maybe depends what else is out there. if no other free agents are interested and that's the cost to keep him, fine, but no trade protection so they can ditch the contract if needed. wouldn't move him at the deadline just based on this.

boeser - if his ask starts with a 9, move now or at deadline, no thanks
