At this point Allvin should be dangling the Hog in front of anyone he encounters and gauging their reaction.
Canucks Army reporting that the Pens, Jackets and Capitals are interested in Hoglander. But checking the three rosters on Puckpedia, having trouble coming up players that would work salary-wise, or would interest the Canucks.

I know Jiricek is available in Columbus.....but it would probably take more than just Hoglander to land him.

I mean, I like Lankinen. But we've kind of thought "oh crap, our backup can replace our starter so he can be flipped for upgrades" a few times now and it didn't work out. (Martin, Silovs, Lack way back when)

Probably worth more than (half) a season to make sure he's the real deal.
No way man. I'm certain that
Martin
Silovs
Desmith
Halak

Lankinen is the real deal.

Well with Penguins there’s obviously M-Petey. Would love to get Pickering. Columbus has pending UFAs (I doubt they move Sillinger or Johnson). Capitals do have Dmen they might be willing to let go as Capitals fan came to ask about Garland.

Well because Drury is an idiot and PA won’t sell Miller for cheap.
Say Willander was on the team this year playing like a good #3 with top pairing potential sooner than later, while RASMUS Andersson was currently non-rostered due to injury/mental health/who knows. Would you consider Willander, Soucy, and our 25 1st for Andersson a slam dunk right now?

Don’t be stupid by comparing JT to Andersson.

I would do a Hoglander for Olivier trade. I don't think the offensive output we're seeing from Olivier is sustainable, but he's got good wheels, is a punishing hitter and a guy who can beat the brakes off of almost anyone in the game. UFA at the end of the season.

I wonder if Jake Walman might be a guy management targets.

On the other hand, I see no reason for San Jose to trade him. He’s been playing like a top 10 defenseman around the league.

He's been such a good fit that it probably wouldn't be viewed positively by the locker room if they moved off him given he still has another year on his deal. Could be a guy they give a 3-4 year extension if the good fit continues. Can't just be shipping off every warm body for magic bean picks when you start getting a bit of traction.

if we wanted jiricek it would be d-petey and hoglander to do it, and we'd also get a lesser asset back that would probably be the key to the whole trade.

I don't see why CBJ would trade Jiricek for a package of lesser pieces instead of 1 big piece with potential.

Yeah they aren't going to get 6th overall type value for him now but trading him for multiple C+/B- assets does nothing for their rebuild.

Problem is with Hog, you can't ship him out for a useful asset both now and later. We'll be making a compromise. If this is the play management is thinking, I'd trade the 2026 1st alongside to better our options.

An OPTION, I haven't the slightest if it's a good one since I haven't seen him proper in a while would be Erik Karlsson at 50%. But that package is more comprehensive (Hog, 1st, 2nd, cap dump, B-prospect).

He's turning 35?!??! THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT, HOLD ME PLEASE.

Lankinen is only showing so well because of the elite defensive play in front of him.

i don't agree they are valued that low but to answer your question in general terms, nobody is going to offer cbj a big piece with potential unless the big piece also has issues. so they have the choice between whatever damaged goods they get offered or a package deal of lesser assets. and at any given time the number of big assets that are available is small to begin with.

as for what grade of assets we are talking about, personally i'd think long and hard over whether i'd rather have d-petey or a late 1st round 2025 pick. the first round pick may have more upside, but the likelihood is that to have such upside in the late first round he will not be the physical package d-petey represents and he will also not be trending as well as d-petey is right now more than two years later. to me, the main reason to take the first would be to trade it because it's a more recognizable tdl currency.

Probably because nobody wants to give them that 1 big piece.

lol wut. JTM is a multiple season 100 pt 1st line center whereas Andersson plays in (checks notes) Switzerland. Soucy is far less valuable than Trochek and Willander is far more valuable than Cuylle. This comparison fails on every level.

I seem to remember eichel with a broken neck/experimental surgery returning a pretty big package of assets. And while he was younger, he hadn't hit the offensive output miller has and people were unsure about how he would come back after surgery.
