Wonder if trouba would cost a not so small fortune. He checks the boxes aside from cap hit.
Trouba is declining pretty rapidly, unless we getting paid to take him on with half retention, it's a no go. Also if he plays here, he is going to get suspended right away for the shit he pulls off in broadway.

Hell, it would have to be double-retention and even then I'd be highly skeptical. From everything I've read, he's actively dragging down his partners.

If the Jackets were smart they would just calm this situation down and let Jiricek bake unless they can get a team to trade for Jiricek like he's a future #1 D. Doubtful given the situation

For us he doesn't make much sense from and asset management sake unless you think we get a better long term player than Willander and can pull that off. Would be a huge risk given the 2 are trending in different directions and we would be giving up the better skater

There are a lot of parallels between Jiricek and Philip Broberg as players and while Jiricek will almost certainly be some sort of NHL player in 2-3 years I'm not sure he improves the team at all right now and I don't think he's the basket we should be putting all our eggs in for this season.

At this point, a lot of Jiricek's future depends on his attitude. If he is focused on improving his game in the A he still has a chance as Nemec is down there in Utica as well.

But this whole, I'm good enough to be in the NHL yet the team doesn't think so, is really bad for him. Walsh doesn't help the situation. Team wants it to work, but don't see enough from him to think that playing him in the NHL will get him better at the moment.

Would not trade for him. Can't take that risk.

That's why I'm never into bring kids up after 15-20 games in the A. Outside of a cup of coffee like Lekky to give them a glimpse fo the speed of the NHL, send them down to continue working on their game. Jiricek was in the NHL too long last season.

absolutely

i think this is also why they've constantly been rumoured to be open to moving garland or even actively shopping him despite how productive he's been in limited opportunity
lets ignore the fact they extended Hog who is a pretty small guy and ignore the fact Garland didn't really fit until Joshua became his linemate and Tocchet came in and helped him changed his play style.

This has been the argument I've making. Makes sense long-term but not for this season or even next.

Yeah we don't have the assets to make this work anyways unless Hog will get it done.

Yes it's an unnecessary gamble for us.

We have a HIGHLY coveted player moving in the right direction with what looks to be an amazing attitude and defensive + skating fundamentals at RD who is pretty much in the same timeline now that Jiricek has shown he's not ready to be a good NHLer.

Would be crazy logic given the trend/data surrounding Jiricek's struggles and without PP utility needs

Making that move would be a job killer if it doesn't work out and nothing is more horrifying for a high pick prospect than the game moving too fast for them.

Not being interested in Jiricek because this season, is silly and short-sighted.

If we'd drafted him five months ago, anywhere in the first round, we'd all be over the moon pumped adding that caliber rhd prospect knocking on the door (just like willander).

It's not about being interested in Willander but if the Canucks have the assets to make it work. Trading Willander for Jiricek, to me and many others, is a side-ways move at best. Lekkerimaki for Jiricek works value-wise but given that Lekkerimaki is the only offensive prospect in the entire system, it doesn't make a tonne of sense. Other than that the Canucks don't have the assets to get him.

what if we'd drafted him 2.5 years ago and he wasn't tracking where you'd want given his draft slot? because the Jiricek everyone is talking about is David, not Adam.

I mean, that really depends on the price though. For Jiricek, CBJ probably asks for Willander or Lekk. For me, at least, Willander is a non-starter and Lekk would be a lot to give up for a guy who's pouting and isn't trusted in a bottom pairing role for a mediocre team.

Every deal is price dependent but we have no idea what Waddell will want or accept.

But the notion we shouldn't try to add Jiricek because it doesn't help win the presidents trophy this season is ridiculous.

If it costs Willander/Lekk then it makes no sense and we're out, fine, but that's largely fan assumption, real life deals happen all the time fans Do not and can not predict.

The point being we should absolutely be trying to add Jiricek, regardless of his presumed time-line to contribution.
Let's not pretend lekk&Will are our only assets, possibly most valuable prospects, but not the only assets.

(Same for every trade target, all our top swedish prospects are probably not going anywhere, save for another Guentzel tier addition)

Let's a assume the bidders are confined to TML, NAS and VAN as has been reported. Who can put together a better bid? Is it possible for us to cobble together something that doesn't include Willander or Lekk?
