Joshua:
-won't play Saturday but thinks either Tuesday or Thursday is very likely
-brings a presence; is a worker
-dependability and reliability are two of the biggest abilities you can have in the NHL
-will help but won't cure some of the issues with the team
Defence Market:
-doesn't think Liljegren got positive value; calls it neutral
-with Jani Hakanpaa coming back, the Maple Leafs had to make a move
-San Jose was the one team interested; have cursory conversations with other teams but no offers
-the trade is an indication of where the rest of the league saw Liljegren
-market will be incredibly thin
-Sharks saw Liljegren's extra year as a positive
Canucks Activity:
-thinks the Canucks will trade for a defencemen in the foreseeable future
-Allvin has been making calls; is the leagues most aggressive GM
-always looking to make the team better
-current focus is to ice a healthy team first
Pettersson:
-there is a level of concern but can't pinpoint what it is
-the acceptable excuses are out the window now
-not about finding better linemates or knee but is about him making 11.6m that can't be a passenger and needs to be a driver
-has had a crisis of confidence
-makes the routine play look difficult
-appears disengaged
-throws away pucks, doesn't engage in battles, and is too soft around the net
-doesn't know what happened
-no doubt that the Canucks would be concerned
-team was flabbergasted after Pettersson talked about his injury; doesn't explain what they saw and not a valid excuse
-"do people think the Canucks would have put their prized 90 million dollar player in harms way?"
-disengaged does not mean he doesn't care but it's almost like Pettersson cares too much about what his game looks like, people say about him, and what coverage appears like
-past the point of no return
-didn't see any of this in the first part of his career and doesn't understand why this would pop up now
His View on the Canucks:
-doesn't view them as a Stanley Cup contender
-keeps a really small circle of 5 teams that are contenders
-this Canucks team is not as good as last season; playoffs or before the trades
-the team has upside and promise
-competitive and a 100 point team; firm playoff team
-have work to do to get into the next tier of teams
-at least one top-4 defencemen away and a healthy Demko away from joining the next tier
-have to move the puck faster
-Desharnais has serious limitations
-need to be more consistent
Biggest Surprise:
-Bruins have been so bad and struggled to score
-didn't expect the Wild or Kings to be this good
-Oilers playing better without McDavid
-hard to get hyped up about anything in the first month of the season
-so many veterans in the NHL don't start playing hard until November
His Inner Circle:
-Golden Knights, Oilers, Rangers, Jets, and Stars
-no teams from the Atlantic
-Panthers have been mercurial this season
-not a believer of in Panthers defence after Montour and OEL left
