heinen is fine but good teams can't afford too much fine. if the bottom six wingers are heinen, joshua (sub hoglander if you like), sherwood, suter (or aman) and sprong then heinen is near the top in salary and near the bottom in performance and utility. he's a luxury they couldn't really afford given the dire situation on defense

Yea I'm not a fan of the Myers contract either, let me be clear on that. The amount of cap space saved from Heinen + Myers + Sprong is more than enough to extend Zadorov, which is what I would've preferred.
Replacing Zadorov with Myers doesn't magically fix the defence. Out of the 3 Myers, Zadorov, and Soucy the only one that has consistently played top 4 minutes is Myers. I think the misstep was thinking that Soucy could handle top 4 minutes.

Allvin has a reputation of pulling off the near impossible and striking early in the trade market. But even he isn't the Houdini of NHL GM's.

Canucks Army has a list of six d-men who might be available to the Canucks. Obviously the list is headlined by Rasmus Andersson in Calgary, who still has a year left on his deal. As for the rest, definitely underwhelming.

And the costs will be ridiculously expensive. Simply too many teams chasing down blueline help, with a limited supply and few teams willing to part with defensemen generally.

With all the draft picks the Canuck have flushed in recent seasons for immediate help, it's a worrying sign. Unless they're absolutely convinced that this year's team has a chance to go all the way, it might be a TDL to just nibble around the edges of their roster and just a little depth.

If we win tonight we're on pace for 106 points after the first 10 games despite nearly everything going wrong so far. It's been a weird start to the season with a lot of weird emotions.

All of those loser points do make a big difference by the end of the season. The gap is like 5 points to 15-20 for some teams

Andersson will cost something ridiculous like Willander, Hoglander and a 1st. Not worth it IMO, especially since we would potentially gifting them a pairing for the next 10-15 seasons if Brzuskewicz pans out.

I think just about every seller will be asking for Willander, and he should be an absolute non-starter. We need his cheap ELC years to overlap with the bad OEL years. Would much rather move Lekkerimaki.

This is my issue with Heinen. He's fine but doesn't really move the needle. Once Joshua's back, you're either moving him down to the fourth line or Hoglander. Which likely means Bains comes out when he'd be fine on the fourth line for a much cheaper cap hit.

It's only 2M, so Heinen isn't holding us back or anything but we really need to spend every extra dollar we have on defense. It really seems like Allvin underestimated just how bad that was going to be.

3rd year on Myers is definitely tough. I can imagine what happened though:

Myers had offers from other teams with a total value of $10-12 million. He was willing to take less to stay but either the AAV would be too high on a 2-year or they had to give him that extra year. They looked around at possible replacements and decided there was nobody that could offer them what Myers provided last season that was going to come at a palatable price. They didn't foresee Myers immediately taking a step back like he has, and really didn't expect Soucy to be awful like he has.

Now they're in a situation where their entire planned bottom-4 of Myers, Soucy, Forbort and Desharnais are performing at level somewhere between unplayable and poor. I'm willing to give all 4 guys and the coaching staff a lot more time to figure things out. The entire team including the forwards look out of sync defensively, whereas last season team defense was a major strength. You can somewhat hide the deficiencies of "trees" if there is good structure around them. But if we've turned the calendar and things haven't improved much, I wouldn't blame anyone for saying that the whole situation was a Benning-level failure by management.

And even if they do settle down, it's hard to argue that it still wasn't a miscalculation given the goal of the team this year was to be more dynamic on the rush offensively which means they would also have to be more dynamic defending the rush and all of that is very tough to do with a defense that lacks mobility and puck-moving ability. I think it's obvious we need one less tree and one more Hughes/Brannstrom type that can legitimately play in the top-4.

If Dobson was actually available, which I doubt, then I'd tell the Islanders they can have our first in 2025 and whatever two players they want that are currently not in the NHL. They'd probably be looking for a roster player though.
I'd drive lekk to the airport.

On Halford and Brough they posed the question, if you could pick any former canuck who is still playing, who would you pick?

The answer they both landed on seems like the winner but I won't post it to see what anyone else comes up with. (Unless someone just names them straight away.)

Has to be Forsling? He’s exactly what this team needs right now, and Hughes/Hronek, Forsling/Willander could be the best defence in the league for the next half dozen years.

1. Forsling
2. Tanev
3. Horvat

I don't even think there are any other legitimate candidates.

It's gotta be OEL.

Were gonna pay him 12 million to play against us over the next 3 yrs

Seriously.......... it's Forsling easy. He's a top10 LD. Crazy he was waived and tossed away twice for next to nothing

It's Forsling by a mile unless the requirement is that the player actually dressed in NHL games for a Canuck, in which case Jared McCann would also be in the mix.

Right, forgot about McCann and he's definitely a good candidate and arguably ranks 2nd after Forsling (definitely ranks 2nd if we're talking long-term and not for just this season).

Yeah that's exactly who it was. They started talking about Tanev, and then a listener said Forsling and that was the agreed upon right answer. McCann was mentioned as the best forward option.

mccann and horvat are both better than forsling imo. forsling is the right pick right now because of the situation on defense but in a vacuum either of the forwards are more valuable

There are few players in the league that play more important minutes than Forsling and he produces high calorie points in the process. Winning head to heads against the oppositions top guys and doing it on an incredibly team friendly contract. it's not even remotely close.
