There’s a reason they’ve been doing it while at home and the team is in Abby - just give a gas receipt and that should be proof enough given the proximity between Van and Abby.

Will be interesting if they do anything while on this road trip. Abby Canucks will be in California at the same time. Two games in San Diego followed by one in Ontario (LA suburb) while the Canucks will be in San Jose, followed by Anaheim & LA.

Missed this yesterday.

-trade talk has picked up; patient teams are running out of patience
-Buffalo is active but is looking to add and not subtract
-Avalanche looking for forwards
-Canadiens looking for forwards with an edge but won't trade young players or prospects
-Utah HC looking to trade Carcone
-a few teams looking for defencemen; several teams don't want term
-Oilers look slower than normal and NHL Edge data backs that up

If this had been a 'trade' instead of a 'swapping of UFA's between Boston and Vancouver, you could say it was a trade that hurt both teams--at least so far.

The B's were bleached 8-2 by the Hurricanes tonight, and are on a serious tailspin. And so far Lindholm and Zadorov aren't giving the Bruins anything like what they expected from a supposed No. 1 center and a top-four d-man.

Meantime with the Canucks--Debrusk has been bageled through 10 games; and Heinen has really come up with very little, with the exception of one road game. And unfortunately because of family issues and inconsistency, Forbort really hasn't delivered much either.

'Nothin from 'nothin equals 'nothin so far.

I’m not sold on this team, I would be disappointed if we started trading 1st rounders and top prospects to give this team a boost.

That wasn’t much of a win streak… it was against bottom feeder teams. The Panthers had their top line sitting out and we could barely beat them.
I'm not saying the "streak" was impressive or not impressive.

I'm saying people's vibes of the team flip on a dime, depending on what happened in the last day or two. When in the context of a long, 82 game season, it is perhaps not that important.

If we win tonight we're on pace for 106 points after the first 10 games despite nearly everything going wrong so far. It's been a weird start to the season with a lot of weird emotions.

Fact is we were 2 goals (and really, a health Demko) away from making the WCF's and facing off against a battered Dallas in the WCF last season. A SCF birth was totally realistic last year.

Every single team out West has glaring weaknesses in their lineups (aside from maybe Dallas). This is why you say screw future draft picks and maybe look at shipping out a Jonathan Lekkerimaki for an immediate upgrade.

to me this season all hinges on a possible boeser extension. if the canucks plan to extend him they may as well clean out the cupboards and go all in asap. committing to boeser means committing to competing now and for the next few seasons and they can't afford to squander a year by not sacrificing the future for the present. trade lekkerimaki. trade willander. trade raty, (elias nils) pettersson and silovs if they have any value even. do some of those double retention deals vegas loves and load up. target players with term so you're not back trying to plug holes again in the offseason

if they're not going to extend boeser then things get more complicated. i think there's a case to be made you move him at the deadline along with suter and sprong and even try to move heinen, soucy, myers and garland if there's tempting deals there. use the assets and the cap space to find a defender to anchor the second pairing and replace boeser. hope willander and lekkerimaki can step in and contribute and you can get right back to competing for 2025-26

i think the worst thing they could do is extend boeser and make a couple modest trade deadline moves. yeah any team can win if they get hot at the right time but continually spending assets in situations where you really have little hope is the fastest way to squander a competitive opportunity and prolong the eventual misery when you fall out entirely

New Signings:
-hard to keep last year's momentum when you add a bunch of UFAs
-lessen learned, don't add that many free agents in one off-season
-going to take more than 9 games to integrate new players
-a source in Boston told him that when DeBrusk has consistent linemates he takes off
-Desharnais is a concern; has to be able to handle the puck

Expectations:
-the market is overreacting but expectations have changed
-Canucks are being held to a higher standard

Pettersson:
-talked to a Western Conference executive to get an out-of-market opinion; was told he's a top end elite talent but is not shooting and wants to see more compete & effort; doesn't see energy and passion; doesn't want the puck and players like that should want the puck; something seems off
-people outside of Vancouver are saying the same things as the media in Vancouver
-the executive believes teams would be interested in acquiring Pettersson; lists teams like Buffalo, Chicago, and Utah
-wouldn't surprise Dhaliwal if teams call the Canucks to touch base on Pettersson
-his agents aren't nearly as concerned as the market is
-Canucks seem just as baffled as everyone else about his drop in production
-Tocchet is not going to rip Pettersson in public; knows this market
-Tocchet has given subtle hints about what is wrong with Pettersson; needs to work harder in practice, move his feet more, etc.
-Pettersson realizes that you can't get away with being lazy or playing bad in a Canadian market
-worst thing in the world is under-performing a contract in a Canadian market

Defenceman Trade Options:
-obviously at some point will have to add a defencemen via trade
-tough market right now and pretty quiet
-injuries can change the market quick
-Blue Jackets have said they are not moving Provorov yet and Flames have said the same with Andersson

Klimovich:
-was not a Colliton favourite; didn't have his trust
-his agent, Milstein, never formally asked for a trade but was frustrated
-Canucks have articulated a clear plan for this season
-organization doesn't want to give up on him
-should have never sent him to Abbotsford in his draft year; should have gone to junior

Willander:
-Canucks are very very happy with his start to the season
-getting a little bit more opportunity to show his offense

Desharnais was and will be a bad contract. Allvin hasn’t been 100% on his signings and I think this will be one them.

I've read and heard this excuse now but Heinen Sherwood is 2/3rds of our best line given expectations. Lankinen is saving our bacon. Bains made the team over DeGuiseppe and Brannstrom over Freidman.

The only one is Debrusk but they quickly pulled him away from EP40 and now is at least starting to find his game with Miller and Boeser

The biggest problems are 1- Pettersson. 2- Soucy Myers. 3- Our PP which again is attached to 40 4- Our 3rd pair defense. 5-Silovs

Not surprisingly, Hab fans are all expecting a 1st for Matheson. With full retention, I actually don't mind that, so long as we can dump Forbort too. Something like

:nucks

Mike Matheson (50% - 2,437,500M)

:habs
1st 2025 or 2026 (Pick whichever. We're probably trading both)
Derek Forbort

I'd be very tempted to toss in another smaller asset if they took Desharnais but either is fine. The main reason I like Matheson here is the extra year. Unlike Pettersson or Provorov, we're adding a top four defenseman for under 3M. That's a massive help to offsetting OEL's buyout next year.

A combination of bad luck and scouting errors:

Jack Studnicka
Curtis Lazar
Ilya Mikheyev
Vincent Desharnais
Danton Heinen (could have maybe done without the 2nd year).

In hindsight, that Lindholm trade sort of sucked too. He was decent a third line center but it really took us out of the running to acquire a more impactful player like Guentzel as a rental.

How the hell is it surprising that it's going to take time for the team to gel when you bring in that many UFAs?

That's stupidity.

The issue is some of the existing players regressing from last year. Soucy-Myers sticks out like a sore thumb.

And EP. Well that's the biggest of all. Everyone is just waiting and waiting but for how long?

Nucks hitched their wagon to him after his start last year and the expectation he would bounce back.

But at this point, this team goes nowhere unless EP himself turns his play around or he eventually gets dealt.

Heinen ??

Already calling that a miss?

Yeah, I don't really have any problems with Heinen.

Weird player who looks invisible but actually plays a very intelligent positional/defensive game and will end up in the right places for 30 ESP. I think he's a guy who is better than a single-game eye test picks up.

Right now, if I'm rating the signings :

Lankinen A+
Sherwood A+
Heinen B-/C+
Debrusk D
Desharnais F
Forbort (incomplete but looks like a poor fit)

Debrusk is a notoriously streaky player and I'm sure he'll get on a run before long.
