I think I'm willing to endure 84 games if it means they get back to starting in early October and the season ends a few weeks earlier like Pagnotta suggests.

I just don't see why the PA would take 84 games for a shorter pre-season which the regulars won't play all of them. Seems like a stupid thing to trade off.

I mean, PA isn't increasing their pay by 2/82 games or 2.44% increase in pay. That $1 mill play isn't getting $24K more a season.

I'm not 100% certain and would have to check but I do not think pre-season games count towards gate revenue but regular season games do. So an 84 game season goes right to the players pocket.

• Josh Norris has generated interest from other teams; Calgary has expressed interest in the past
• Some talk of Thomas Chabot and Drake Batherson being in trade talks
• Senators want to do something
• Tkachuk’s NTC doesn’t kick in until next season
• Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto could be trade options

Batherson is a solid trade chip if they’re trying to trade him.

Really have no clue what a trade would look like. Ottawa has some really nice pieces but a team like Calgary can offer Weegar or Andersson and it would be better than anything we can offer.

I wonder if they have any interest in a Hoglander-Pinto or Grieg swap.

Ott, they burned up all of the RFA years of Chabot already and Brady’s extension at the end of this season. Kind of crazy that so much time has passed.

Have to be careful and sure that they aren’t building around guys who will ask out later.

Not if the Nucks continue to play like they have at home.

Maybe if the additional two games are on the road.

It's up to the front office to decide how to replace him but if players are going to tell the market they are taking a discount and then don't, by pure principle the team needs to move on.

That said, there's plenty of time. If Boeser can resume scoring at a 40 goal pace when Miller returns it becomes more palatable.

The upside is they've got a starting number to go by and they can use that to decide whether to start negotiations.

At first I thought more regular games was terrible, and still do mostly for record reasons, but also preseason games are so awful I want as few of them as possible.

Also season should start week of, or week following schools starting from summer break, but I suppose I'll take earlier October better than nothing.

Buchnevich signed a 6 yr deal at 8 million that only starts next year. His highest scoring season is one 30 goal year then 27 then 26.

Barzal is from Boeser's draft class. Also and immedietly above him in scoring is Konecy at 8.75 and Meier at 8.8.

Boeser comes in somewhere between Buch and Barzal its all but guaranteed.

Age at signing (and age at the end of the deal) are also factors. Brock's deal will begin at 28. Barzal's deal began at 26. Buch his deal would start at 30. So, at 6 years, it would end at 36, same with an 8 year term for Brock. Barzal's ends at 34.

I'd always hope that the player coming off a bridge is worth the max so that it runs to around 34. But, that wasn't the case with Brock.

As long as someone stays on his ass about his conditioning he'll be worth it, that's pretty much the only caveat with this player. Agree with all of this. I think he’ll end up signing a 8x$7.5 with us by the deadline. He wants to be here and he’s turned into a good two way player who can score.

I get that it's a money thing, but players are so worn down after 80-84 games. I would like to see a return to 70 with fewer back to backs.

$8M and 6 years is the most I’d go. He’s kind of a modern day Patrick Sharp. His $5.90M contract back in the day came around 9.83% of the cap. 10% at say 92M cap is roughly $9M.

6 years is the most I’d probably do. With his skating and injury history I’d be weary of giving him an 8 year deal.

Are we really going to hand wring ourselves over half of a million dollars on a player that the team can't replace? Just pay Boeser, sign him to a long term deal and smile to the bank when the cap goes up by like 20 mil in the next 3 years.
