It's just terrible though. If he's being a distraction, healthy scratch him until 4 Nations, then healthy scratch him again until the deadline if necessary. Suspend him if the behaviour is bad enough. They already proved in November that they can win without him. Give him the tough love that he seems to need.

I actually really doubt his behaviour is that egregious though, because if it was they wouldn't be trotting him out to speak to the media.

You don't like the package, so you'd signal the rest of the league "hey, we hate this guy! He's causing problems! Also, give us the moon!"

I don't get this thinking.

I wonder if there's more going on behind the seasons than we know (probably) that makes the Brain Trust feel that they need to do this quickly, rather than waiting for the best possible return.

It's been 2.5 years now and it's evident someone in management hasn't seen a clear path forward with this player. There's been a clear push at times to trade him.

I personally think there's been some sort of an internal power struggle. Whether it be owner vs GM or GM vs someone on the management team.

Ryan Lindgren? Really? The guy is a shell of himself already because of the way he plays

If that really was the trade then I’ve lost some faith in this management group and their obsessed with trying to stockpile dmen who can’t move the puck is terrifying

That ship has clearly already sailed. This is a player who scored 100 points the previous season, and plays the style that teams are desperate for in the playoffs.

If other teams are lowballing to that level, it would be better for the Canucks to wait until the offseason. Based on what we're seeing with cap increases, his contract is going to look amazing after what goes down in free agency.

Y'all should check out the publicity Burke got when he shipped out Bure. It was...not pretty. And the trade I don't think ended up being Kesler-level bad.

To me, it seems some of y'all are pushing hard for something that's gonna suck no matter how you slice it, you don't get to be a beggar and a chooser.

Yeah, we could do that. I'm expecting things for here to only get worse if we go that route. They are lowballing us for a reason, and the way you described is a far more treacherous route if you want actual resolution. Everyone wants to at least break even, hate to break it to everyone but I really don't see that as being grounded in reality considering the circumstances.

The question nobody asks is where does Quinn Hughes fit into all this? His contract is up when? The Canucks have been a clown car of drama his whole career with little success...Would he even want to stay here after witnessing that?

That's why I think the situation needs to be resolved before the deadline. We're gonna upset the whole apple cart because we can't properly cut our losses.

The opportunity cost of that…

Further turmoil. Team tumbles down more. Players values keep decreasing.

Don’t think it’s that simple.

Yeah, this ain't those NHL vidya games. There are far more many moving parts that go into things, and far more many personalities that a vidya could never properly simulate.

I agree. It'd be different if the trade was unannounced (say offseason) with no reports on the friction between Petey and Miller. People are massively overreacting after having been conditioned to by the Dim Jim Era. I'm not happy with these returns either, but what else are we expecting? We're not dealing from a position of strength.

We lose any trade with make with Miller. As long as we get back usable parts that aren't clamped down by ridiculous salaries, management adds by subtracting Miller and freeing the cap space for someone else.

thats a douchey response to a post where i gave a genuine one. not gonna entertain it. oh well

Obviously if Hughes is pushing to trade him, you do it.

At the end of the day we don't know all the factors involved and we can speculate all we want.
