Kotkaniemi is constantly coming up in any trade talks with Carolina. They seem to really want him for whatever reason. Have no idea why.
could be the other way around. i think carolina has been trying to move kk for years buried in a big trade where his individual merits are not on prominent display.

kk had never pk'd and sees over 60% ozone starts. yet he's decent on faceoffs and used in a bottom six role and ripe for pk duty. from this i conclude he is not trusted on defensive iq and must be a big pita to coach around. canes must badly want to be rid of him.

offensively his even strength production is not bad, but so is pool party's. he barely gets a sniff of pp time.

from all this i conclude he is either low hockey iq benefitting from sheltering on a good team, or unfairly pegged by his coach based on his play when younger and ready for a bigger role on another team. the latter is a pretty big gamble.

AI probably would've gives us a more interesting interview. Sheesh.

Seems like Alvin believes the team might actually be BUYERS at the TDL. Talks about parity and the Canucks not being fully healthy yet.
and ai allvin would have 6 fingers.

Miller:
-won't comment
-was really pleased with his performance on Saturday night
-sickness going around in the dressing room with a couple of guys under the weather
-mentions we will see how many players practice today

I believe it. There is a stomach bug that's spreading like absolute wildfire in the region right now.

What a wild ride!
Last year came within a game of knocking out Edmonton and probably would have beat them with a healthy Demko. Then who knows what happens although I don’t think anyone was beating Florida.
Now we’re looking at a retool/rebuild on the fly. Miller had high value at the end of last year but clearly management thought we were a team on the rise even with the loss of Lindholm and Zadarov.
Clearly management was wrong.
I think trading Miller is the right decision but I don’t really see how we get to top contender status even with the trade. Our prospect pool is pretty weak and we just don’t have a top core.
The worst part is that we’re wasting the prime years of the guy who will end up as the best Canuck in history.

It's been the same problem with the Canucks for years and years since I can remember. We never start by cultivating our prospect pool. At some point we invariably waste what we have accomplished by jettisoning out whatever it is we have obtained. Always backwards. We first should be building out our prospects and then when they have matured keep adding to that a second wave of prospects. Only start trading or promoting when we have a legitimate shot.

Rutherford probably told Allvin to GTFO there and hold a press conference given everything in the media the last few days.

Worked about as well as a Miller trade.

Miller Talk
  • Sometime on Friday/Saturday the Canucks thought they were close to a trade
  • Thinks Miller was notified it was a possibility he would be traded over the weekend
  • Convinced it was the Rangers
  • Not sure what happened to caused it to fall apart
  • Doesn’t think it involved Alexis Lafreniere and Mika Zibanejad
  • There are a few teams that have permission to talk to Miller
  • Believes that Miller is willing to go to the Rangers
  • Sounds like granting permission to some teams is a relatively new change from the Canucks
  • Probably a lot out there that is true, false, and in the middle about what is going on with Miller and the Canucks
  • Initially thought there was a personality clash
  • Never would have been able to tell anything was going on with the way the players treated the fans at yesterday’s Dice & Ice Gala
  • No one has reached out to Friedman to let him know anything he said was incorrect
Pettersson
  • Told the Canucks he wants to stay and the talks around him have cooled
  • Team and players are receptive to Pettersson staying
  • If Pettersson plays to the level he can play at, people will rally around that
McDavid vs Garland
  • Garland did a great job and decided that McDavid wasn’t sending the game to OT
  • Doesn’t think that a penalty would have benefited the Oilers
  • McDavid got angry and lost his mind because of it
  • Myers will get suspended too
  • Wonders if Myers gets more because he was engaged with Bouchard less than McDavid was with Myers

Take it for what it's worth, but Sekeres just said he heard the deal with the Rangers was basically done, but it was actually Rangers ownership that scuttled it. He basically said the deal was dead on that basis.
Drury: "We have a deal to get a 100pt American C locked up long-term for scraps"
Dolan: "Is a 1st included?"
Drury: "Yes but..."
Dolan: "No buts! No deal!"

Sounds like the Rangers almost ripped us off but then their management...told them not to for some reason lol.

He also said they're still evaluating Boeser, who has been here *checks notes* almost 10 years.
boeser makes it difficult to evaluate because he's got great shot tipping ability, can really rip the puck, etc. and then sometimes he's an absolute slug at evens and isn't engaged whatsoever, but he can be.

it ends up being a question of how much you want to commit to a player like that, and what you might be able to replace him with. it's a tough choice, especially when debrusk is producing at a similar rate at even strength. i could probably stomach boeser at an AAV of 7-7.5M on an 8 year deal. or maybe you just throw a boatload of money at marner.
