so far, matthews is as advertised. Laine (mostly due to limited ice time) hasn't shown much outside that monster shift at the end of the 2nd.
hopefully he gets more ice in the third.

I hope the Finns can score the 3rd goal, the games against USA are always very difficult, in the past years they lost against them mostly.

I do think the Finns will win tho, better team but i am happy how Matthews has played against good/elite players

edit spoke too soon

He needs to get a LOT stronger for that imo.

I find he uses his skill more than his body down low. It works, and he will get stronger. But for him to be like Jagr down low he'd need to seriously dad-bod up.

I watched Jagr the most when he was with Pittsburgh when he wasn't as strong but had more speed. Maybe I'm remembering that more. Or maybe I just saw a flash of it, dunno. Just got that vibe more a minute there.

My summary thus far.

Matthews is in the game 100% of the time. Hes contributing in all 3 zones. Carrying the pace of play when he is on the ice. He positively impacts the game on every shift. His ability to generate offence has been good not great.

Laine hasnt been rather intense or involved, however he obviously has that killer instinct. Hes a legitimate threat to score or set up a goal every time the puck touches is stick in the offensive zone. Has been non existent in own zone/neutral zone play, which is why i feel the coach is limiting his play.

He really reminds me of Tarasenko.
