lol I mean sure. He's only had multiple strong zone entries leading to scoring chances. Both teams rolled all 4 lines as well. Not to mention he is matched up against Barkov, who was 5th in Selke voting this year. He doesn't look out of place whatsoever against Barkov.

Yeah, matthews looks like a freaking stud.
F the leafs

IMO

Laine looks incredibly dangerous on the PP. I expect the goal light to go red everytime I see him wind up for the one t. Absolutely incredible. Really is a thing of beauty, he can literally change a powerplay by himself. Extremely impressive. Needs to work a bit on his dgame and limit the flashiness a little 5 on 5 though. Poor decision on the turnover, but he can iron that out. His skating is pretty meh right now. Can definitely improve. Like the physicality he is playing with though.

Matthews was good for the majority of the period, especially on the takeaway leading to the Vatrano goal. Does everything really well. Maybe he should step up the intensity a bit in the next period.

Finns look amazing in this game. Real good speed and skill. Bad US defense, way too inexperienced. I like Hynes' coaching so far though. Good job matching line for line.

USA played a lot better and Matthews is a beast. Lindell and Hietanen are the worst Finnish defenseman. Matthews looked like Barkov there. Great defensive player. Laine has some work to do with his D game.

Luckily we are leading.

Yeah, but Laine is an absolute beast on the pp. It feels like he's an x-factor there, seems like he can score every time. Its crazy.

He should be able to get it off in the NHL. Like ovie does on the PP. He just can't be the only threat or guys will take all his space away.

But the jets will have other offensive guys that will create space for Laine to blast shots from that spot on the PP.

That's the bottom line. He's a legit weapon that will boost any offense, but people are kidding themselves if they think he's gonna be as overwhelmingly effective against the NHL pk/goalie/ice combo as he was against germany and belarus.

Yeah, they definitely aren't biased. Why would they be? People are way too heated about this debate right now.

I'm expecting Laine's turnover to lead to big talks in the versus board as well. It was definitely a bad play, but these things happen. Regardless, he and the team need to be better. The only time they've been visible aside from the counter attacks were the PP. The US is dominating right now.

EDIT: Meant invisible.

Some people may talk about the turnover, but it's not really a big deal. Turnovers often come as part of the package with an elite offensive player. When you have the puck on your stick that often in scoring chances, you're bound to fumble the puck once in a while.

Great period by Matthews.

As for Finland I am becoming more and more worried about defence and goaltending. Our forwards are top notch but there are too many question marks in other areas. If we don't improve Canada is going to tear us apart.

Why not use Aho on the faceoff circle on the PP, since he was the only one who could pass the puck to Pulkkinen in the previous games?

Also please KJ move Laine to LW, he is just bad on the right side...

That Laine one-timer on the power play is unreal. I can see opposing teams being terrified of taking penalties against the Jets due to that one timer. Nobody wants to stand in front of it either.

I don't trust Koskinen in goal at all. Jalonen has weird line rotations and it feels like Barkov, who should be our best player, barely gets any ice time. The defense is really slow as well.

prob why I barely noticed him because I was mainly looking on the Left side.

It's about as fair game as the Matthews turnover that led to the Marchand goal. These kids are going to make mistakes.

Goalie worries me. The d is fine as long as they are not trying to shoot as it seems they hit the first opponent about every time.

He is dangerous. I think though he is going to have to up his game in that department facing NHL level goalies. That is one of the huge difference in NHL vs everything else.

Nevermind time and space once he gets to the NHL.

To be fair, i'm pretty sure canada is going to rip apart every team they play this tournament:laugh:

Finland, if they can get their acts together, should just dominate the US in the 2nd period. The talent disparity is very evident.

Love seeing Leo be a beast in international play, and love that the Fins love this guy as much as we Leaf fans do during the NHL season.

Does anybody get prime Heatley vibes from Laine?

Nice offside goal by USA. Refs are clueless, didn't even see the net off place before the USA goalie shoved it more.

IF you picking on laine for that one turnover, get the highlight, i think it was offside and laine was waiting the call, anyhow the goal was weak, koskinen should get that.
Offside or not, still a mistake. Sometimes Laine could be smarter with his passes. Koskinen was awful with that but he saved us couple times.

I also expect Laine to score in this game after that mistake. It's just his game.

So close:

On the slo-mo, didn't look like the trajectory was on net. Condon turned it into a dangerous play by redirecting it toward the net.

It doesn't matter, these games aren't that important. And Sweden will beat Canada on medal rounds and Finland beats Sweden in final, so we won't face Canada again.

Dunno why KJ isnt giving Barkov line top line minutes. He wasnt even saving them for PP as Koivu's line was the first unit. KJ go already to Switzerland you old fool.

Laine, 1 nice hit, turnover and couple chances on PP with couple minutes of ice time.
