GDT: Group B - May 17 - USA (2) vs Slovakia (3) (OT)

US played nearly as bad all tournament.
 
This SVK team might have done some damage...if IF they had a coach?

Good on Yanks, BUT too bad / too little, too late for SVK...they played their hearts out...

The US didn't play "nearly as bad all tournament". They played Finland basically even. Today was their first bad game of the tournament

Au contraire, this is the first sub par game ( against a highly motivated SVK side, less we forget ) Yanks played. They totally dominated Germany ( everywhere but on the scoreboard ) and might have beaten Suomi but for foolish penalties...

Considering how young they are + all the refuseniks, Yanks have done alright in this tourney...Plus they get the beatable Czechs, NOT Russians...

Ergo, They're NOT in bad shape...Plus now the pressure is off...
 
Well, I guess USA is at the level where even a close win vs Germany would be considered a "good game"? I disagree, it should be a free win.

By the way, overall this was one of Matthews's worse games IMO.

Got robbed twice actually. Also had an assist taken away because of Foligno. It was still an underwhelming showing though.

Yanks played pretty good vs Germany...Out shot them badly..Took a totally lucky seeing eye shot to beat them...Less we forget, Germany was tied 2-2 with Canada after two...This years German side (although I guess their down 2 forwards now ) are NOT chopped liver...

It's not a free win when Germany has the clear superior goaltending and the US doesn't have many skilled forwards beyond their top line. This is one of the weaker US teams in recent memory and Germany has played well this tournament. US outplayed them all game but got robbed a few times and doesn't have many finishers. That's basically why they lost
