We really cannot afford to lose him. It's tough enough that Rieder, Fauser and Ankert are already out, but Schütz was basically our best or at least most successful forward.
Not sure why Sturm didn't go with four lines and six defensemen in the third period though. Now Kahun and Flaake only played one minute in the third, while there was still a seven men rotation at the back. There would have been a candidate for that role as well, Braun used to be a forward until some point in his DEL career. It's been quite a while, but it definately beats the alternative of playing just three lines.
This tournament has been a great success for Germany, but I really can't see another surprise in the quarterfinals. Not with four players missing and a defense that is looking that suspect. There are just too many brainfarts close to the own net.
With everyone healthy I would have said that there is a slim chance (like 5% or so) for a surprise, but now I say the odds are extremely marginal. Especially if it goes against Russia. Nothing against the Czechs, they would very very likely win as well, but the German tendency for colossal blunders in the own end plays right into the Russian strengths, not to mention that Russia is playing at home and has gotten some serious reinforcements since having lost to the Czechs.
Never had a problem with the German commentators either. Goldmann is pretty knowledgeable and decently witty. He and Schwele occasionally go for a few inside-jokes too many, but all in all they do a really good job.
