I think I speak for everyone except BLR fans .... Go team France!

Nope. I'd rather see Belarus stay up as they are better at hockey and I want the WC to be as competitive as possible. I feel for the Hungarian fans though. Heartbreaking end to this game.

Too bad for Hungary. Hope for the sake of their great fans that they get to stay up.

You can bet that if we do, there will be at least twice as many fans next year (combination of success and the fact that Germany and France are cheaper to access than St. Petersburg).

Hmm interesting... should Russia not take over 1st place in Group A, the German may wish that they had lost this game.

Little bit lucky to win the game with 2 minutes left, Hungary fought hard and played well, kudos to them.
Now Russia is (probably) waiting in the QF for Germany, that's going to be very tough..

No word on Schutz yet.

We really cannot afford to lose him. It's tough enough that Rieder, Fauser and Ankert are already out, but Schütz was basically our best or at least most successful forward.

Not sure why Sturm didn't go with four lines and six defensemen in the third period though. Now Kahun and Flaake only played one minute in the third, while there was still a seven men rotation at the back. There would have been a candidate for that role as well, Braun used to be a forward until some point in his DEL career. It's been quite a while, but it definately beats the alternative of playing just three lines.

This tournament has been a great success for Germany, but I really can't see another surprise in the quarterfinals. Not with four players missing and a defense that is looking that suspect. There are just too many brainfarts close to the own net.

With everyone healthy I would have said that there is a slim chance (like 5% or so) for a surprise, but now I say the odds are extremely marginal. Especially if it goes against Russia. Nothing against the Czechs, they would very very likely win as well, but the German tendency for colossal blunders in the own end plays right into the Russian strengths, not to mention that Russia is playing at home and has gotten some serious reinforcements since having lost to the Czechs.

Never had a problem with the German commentators either. Goldmann is pretty knowledgeable and decently witty. He and Schwele occasionally go for a few inside-jokes too many, but all in all they do a really good job.

I think, regardless of Schütz being available for the QF, the only shot they have is if Greiss has one of those games and we get lucky a couple of times at the other end.

As far as the commentators on Sport1 are concerned. Sometimes they get a little carried away with their "jokes", but for the most part they are ok. Which makes them much better than the vast majority of sports commentators in Germany overall and on their network in particular.

A couple of observations for Team Germany for the whole tournament so far:

1) They have excellent zone entries during PP´s. Almost 100% success when Ehrhoff drops it back to Draisaitl.
2) Kahun had really strong games 2 and 3 and slowed down a lot in the last few games.
3) Ehrhoff has been immense throughout the whole tournament. He is such a good skater and really calm with the puck. I don´t get how he plays so little in the NHL. Imo he would be a great fit for a team like Edmonton that need offense from their defensemen.
4) Has Draisaitl won a faceoff this whole tournament? Semi serious question... He has to have one of the worst % for sure.
5) Draisaitl had some amazing passes and also some of the worst imaginable turnovers at the same time. Really questionable decision making at times....
6) After 7 games Drai has a total of 4 shots on goal. That is a BAD stat line :(
7) I don´t understand why Sturm played Reul at the beginning of the 4vs4 when Hungary scored the first goal.
8) Really impressed by Gogulla and Schütz. Both rarely lose the puck and are pretty strong along the boards. And on top of that have good offensive skills to go with. Gogulla could probably play in the NHL, but I guess it´s too late for that now...

Always liked Gogulla, but he couldn't show what he has in the AHL, not sure if it was riding the bus or missing his girlfriend.

That was 09/10... so 7 years ago.
35 points in 76 games and +7. Not great but not bad. (Just going by his stats)

He turns 29 soon and after reading his facebook page it feels like he just loves it in Cologne and probably doesn´t have NHL ambitions anymore. But you never know :)

If the Belarusians lose tomorrow, the Hungarians avoid relegation. Crazy to think.

What's so crazy about it? Yeah i know Team Hungary in quality is not the best to say the least, but they literally "die" at the hockey ring to get the result.:yo:

They bested Belarus in that match, why do u think that they don't deserve to stay in WC?

I never said they don't deserve to stay. I'm just surprised.
