Germany has more NHLers on their team than I thought

Unfortunately Tobias Rieder is out of the tournament with a knee injury.

Draisaitl, Rieder, Ehrhoff, Holzer, Greiss and some of their decent players in Europe makes for a good German team this year. If they can avoid Russia in the quarter finals they might, with some luck, even make the semi finals. Without Rieder the chances becomes smaller though. They did play in the bronze medal game not so many years ago, so anything can happen.

I agree, I actually prefer SVK or USA to play QF againtst us rather than the Germans...

People tend to forget that before 2 years of making it to the quarters in opportunistic situations, Belarus finished 14th in 3 straight years. Relegation this time around would not actually be considered an outlier.

I believe that most are aware of that but prior to the tournament it was considered practically certain that Hungary would be relegated. So it is certainly surprising.
