There doesn't look to be the next Draisaitl, but the future generations look like they're going to be MUCH better in terms of depth.

As of now, their next best player is looking like Yannik Valenti. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=266985 Also Danjo Leonhardt is posting some pretty good stats, but he's still quite young. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=319668

But the national team should be better when players like Julian Napravnik, Benjamin Beck, Lean Bergmann, Louis Latta, Lukas Kalble, Manuel Wiederer, Mike Fischer, Tobias Eder, Dominik Bokk, Tim Fleischer, Sebastian Hon, Bastian Eckl, Cedric Schiemenz, and Manuel Alberg all join the fold. Probably a good amount won't become NHL players, and some of them will bust, but there are others in this list that will surprise and become good. I don't share the other German posters comments that it doesn't look good. I think it is what it is, the difference in talent between the great players and bad players in the youth systems are still large part, but you can't honestly say that Germany has not improved it's development system. Me posting around 15 names that can seriously help Germany on the international stage shows that they have IMO.

Thanks. Imo, Germany seems to be taking steps forward. Superstars are outliers, as the game grows in Germany more will appear. It's not an indictment of the system to not be churning out Draisaitl after Draisaitl. The benchmark is how the overall level of players changes.

I would guess going to the World Cup to watch Team Europe play is about as high on that list for a German or Swiss national.

Well, at least with so many US players turning down the Worlds every year it gives other teams a shot to advance.

So like the WJHC?

I mean the best young talent is already in the NHL, so there's no point in caring about that tournament either, right?

It's the best talent that is under 20 years old.

The WJC would become a joke if the CHL and NCAA started prohibiting players from attending the tournament. Or if players started declining to go.

U20 isn't quite best on best, but close enough...plus its played at a more optimal time of year, Christmas holidays...Whereas WC, which happens in NA once every hundred years, must compete with SC Playoffs.

WC's don't come close to World Junior's popularity on this side of the pond. TSN's top rated broadcasts are pretty much all WJC games

http://www.iihfworlds2016.com/ there use to be a PDF files for games. I'm not sure if they still have it available cause I can't find those anymore.

If you click on the Statistics tab, the bar below, which has Teams and Players tabs, has a tab on the far right which takes you to the older style statistics page with detailed PDF files.

Oh yeah, while I'm here, the US pp had me cursing out loud with frustration. Just terrible.

Maybe shall not have all-star teams in world cup after all? Playing against the smaller nations is not always that easy. 3 games yesterday ended with upsets.

I dont see it that positive. Germany is not in the top group of U18 and U20 as most of these players was. Atleast 1 year.

Yes right! Second question is why the current german players(from DEL) are not interesting for KHL or NLA etc.

And I don't see that as such a big problem, yet.

Tobias Rieder played once in U18 div.1 and twice in U20 div.1 and turned out alright
The German junior teams have been going up and down all the time. Sometimes they stayed one additional year at the top division, but not very often.
When Draisaitl made his appearances it was an anomaly. It's just not realistic to expect them to play at the top level all the time.

And with the format change a few years back, it was clear that it would be much more difficult to win promotion again. If they miss out on promotion for another year or two, it might become an issue.

Despite some promising players I have no expectations for the next 4 or 5 years. Then I hope to see some improvement if the changes implemented by Reindl & Co. actually work. If not they will likely spend more time in div. 1 than in the top division.
