Having been to the FIN-RUS match, I can tell you that the home crowd is relentless in pressuring the refs. It makes it a lot harder to remain unbiased when there are 12 000 people just itching to unleash their ire at you.

Sort of ironic how after the 2014 Worlds Kummola "made it clear" that the IIHF would make sure there would be the best refs at WJC. Well we know that will never be the case because national federations never send the best refs, only those that suck up to the refereeing officials the most.

Our chances in the quarterfinals are very slim, that said, I'm satisfied with our performance. We would have probably won the game if not for the refs.

Thats BS and u have to know it. A team that cant hold a lead and kill a frigin penalty cant win a hockey game against a quality opponent. We should b happy that our guys are finally competitive on this scene. It wasnt too long ago that we were celebrating advancing to the quarters...quit *****ing and look at the whole situation realistically. Congrats to Finland. This tourney is abt developing and showcasing talent. And some of your guys are amazing. Good luck against Canada!

Do you really think it should have been a diving/embellishment penalty on Siikonen or what do you mean?

Maybe. At least Finland shouldn't have PP after that kind of acting. I know other teams do it even more, but still don't like when finns do that too.

If u cant stand the heat, get out of the hockey rink. Ir in other words, a ref cant stand the pressure, f... him and dont delegate the incompetent person from refing a Championship. Thats like saying "Frank is a worldclass player but only when playing infront of his family". Would u give a damn abt Frank? No. Unless you are his brother;) Same applies to a ref. If one cant stand a full arena, he is useless on the international stage. And shouldnt be a international ref. Over.

I don't disagree, but honestly refs that have the professionalism and mental strength to stand up against this kind of pressure unaffected are few and far between, even more so among those that are available for international events.

Just shows how much clout and influence iihf has when subpar refs are delegated while top ones continue to ref domestic leagues. Abd if these guys are the cream of the crop well then...houston we have a problem:)))

Well to objective I dont really think the referees messed the game too badly. I've seen some horrible refereeing in for example Fin-Swe final two years ago. It almost took my away my interest in following the game. But I got it back when Fin scored in overtime :)

i think that the refs have been bad the whole tournament its just one of the aspects of the game as always. I thought this was a good game for both teams. now both are prepared to meet next opponents.:yo:

Hear hear. People making it sound like penalties are automatic goals awarded. A good team can overcome a couple of bad calls.

Mäkelä, Rönn, Levonen have been considered the best Finnish refs. Jussi "persuilee" again.

Is it just me or did Zacha not look 100% today? He looked as if he still felt the effects of his injury.

I can't take Pastrnak seriously when his pronounciation sounds like the finnish word for Parsnip. But the guy is good.
It's not like that loan word is all that Finnish anyway; a quick Wikipedia language-scrolling reveals that it's pretty much past-something-nak+maybesomevowel in quite many languages, including Czech.

Wasn't there also a Czech player (in their men's team) whose name was Cucumber? I thought the Finnish tendency to make last names out of places was pretty odd (compared to the Anglo-Saxon standard of naming by profession), but vegetables?

Kukumberg = Slovak player. And if u pronounce Pastrnak like u would the author of the classic Doctor Zhivago (Pasternak) u r not gonna be far off. If u havent read the book or seen the movie, I highly recommend both:)

At least he's not this guy: https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Paska

What a game.
If that wasn't a thriller what'll be.

Czechs looked really good but unfortunately Finland won this time.
Pastrnak, Spacek and Zacha are very good prospects and they clearly has NHL future.

Vanecek wasn't his best level tonight but same regards for Vehviläinen.
I'm still very worried our goal-tending and defense.

Those are Finland's biggest problems with PK play.
Powerplay looks good for Finland.

Canada will be huge challenge for our young lions but honestly said it's better to face Canada than USA in quarterfinals.
Referees were bad and there was some lousy calls but i don't cry or complain more of refs because my country's team won .

Good luck to all quarterfinal teams and HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
PS hey Czechs one question for your prospects.

I saw there was a Czech player last name Vesely is he akin for Viteslav Vesely that Czech javelin thrower and is Michal Spacek Jaroslav Spacek's son.

Vesely is a fairly common surname in Czech Rep., I don´t think there is a relationship between these two, but it is just my guess..
and Michal Spacek is not son of Jaroslav Spacek.

Finland, congrats with going to semi final , Canada is going to be an easy job

Really?
There's not easy games.

However it's better to face Canada than USA.
Finland has still serious problems our starting goalie ( Vehviläinen) allows easy goals for opponents.
Defense is mediocre and PK is average ( Czech's didn't score any powerplay goals which is good of course but still there's a lot to fix)

Those details worries me a lot Finland has showed undisciplined too often and they still took idiotic penalties.

Wow. World really is so small.

Big part of Doctor Zhivago was filmed on a frozen lake next to my mothers home, which later became my summer paradise. When I asked my grandmother about the filming, she said "Nii, se tohtor Sivakko."

I'm sorry, but only Finns can get that.
