Unfortunately... it is a pity that we screwed up with them. Obviously, Slovak team would play more equally with Russian stars. But Germany won and they deserve to play in QFs.
Actually if Russia loses to Sweden, Czechs are at the top of group. (
If we beat Swiss obviously)

They should not be in group you are mentioning, they have won 2silver medals in last 6 years and producing more elite talent than ever. Also they will never lose to big guns by 8 goals ever again, not even in best on best tourneys.

The gaps between different tiers seems to have got wider. After all, Germany is the top team of its tier.

Personally I think the Swiss perform better as a team than their national talent level dictates.

They do, but their national talent level has also improved by leaps and bounds. 15 years ago, they weren't so different from where Latvia is now, a structured group that would sometimes win close games on the back of great goaltending performances. Now they have guys like Hischier, Meier and Josi that can consistently generate offense. Hell of a step up.

They had their most competitive team last year at home and didn’t reach QF anyway, their problem is not lack of NHL players but euro core players depth not improving.

I agree in general with what you say. However, it was still a team without Ehlers, Eller, True, Bruggisser and M.Lauridsen.

Oops, totally forgot Nikolaj Ehlers was not there, I know about Lauridsen, that was big loss but otherwise i’m nit sure itwoůd make such diffirence.

Good win for the team yesterday. As to Germany and the tiers. Right now I have them outside the Big 6 but still in the top 10 of hockey nations.
