Canada wins 6-5 on a buzzer beater shot against a MASSIVE underdog in their home country and all I read is how classless the fans are, obviously you're gonna be upset. Nobody cares about the Canadian anthem outside of Canada, who cares if they boo it.

Canadians should be happy there's even hockey played outside of Canada considering how little the rest of the world cares.
What? I don't care about the Canadian national anthem at all, but booing during it is extremely classless.

Oh, come on! 1 second left, that’s just sad.

The fans were great during the whole game and created a fantastic atmosphere, only to completely embarrass their country in the final two minutes and post-game. Slovak fans are very emotional which goes both ways. If they are happy, they create a fantastic atmosphere, if they are upset, it can get ugly. The ending of the game was especially cruel to the Slovak team and I understand the disappointment. That kind of behaviour, however, is completely unacceptable, especially during international competition. Sadly, I've seen way worse during league games.

If you Canadians only knew what it felt like to constantly get the worse end of games you might understand better the frustration of the Slovak fans. Not saying it wasn’t uncalled for but when you are second best so many times and get so close it’s infuriating. We just want one good year

Canadians get so many calls against them, this comment is puzzling. Just look back at the U18's where Canada got screwed by the refs.

Zero excuse for the classless fans in that arena to boo the anthem.

Its refreshing to see some guys get it.

This game could have gone either way, some days you win them and some days you dont, thats sports.
Yeah I agree. Blaming the refs always comes off as being a sore loser. As a Slovak I am proud of the team today, scoring 5 against Canada is very encouraging going forward in the tournament, could have gone either way. I though Slovakia was the better team in the third, but penalties and terrible PK sunk us.

God Manthas putting on a clinic so far. Kids an absolute bull when he puts on the Canadian jersey.
He’s an unstoppable force when he’s on. I don’t care if that’s only 1/3 of the time for the Wings when he looks like Lindros when wearing the Maple Leaf.
:yo:

At least we dont have to be sad about today’s loss against Russia. Slovaks ended up the same way despite much better performance than Czechs.

Even though Refs werw on North Amarican side (Don't you ever get used to it?), that's not the right way to show your disappointment.

I am in no means defending the fans' behavior, but just wanted to give more insight to their motives.

This tourney is hockey event number 1 here and has been for decades. In the years we finished with a medal, there was a nationwide party going on. And the tickets for the games on home turf were really expensive for an averege Slovak. And after the last several years of disappointment that the NT was, we finally have a team that can compete and were close to getting points from Canada for the first time since 2012. And we are known for a somewhat southern temperament AS a nation, so to lose like that will set certain people off.

Their behavior is still inexcusable, but please don't hold it against the Slovak players, who have been fighting 100% this tourney nor on all Slovak fans.

There are around 1.3 million of US watching these games (out of a population of 5.4 million), so please don't judge us all based on a few idiots.

Canada has won 26 gold medals. Slovakia has won one in 2002. Your comment is the one that’s puzzling. You guys are so used to winning that when you lose it’s whatever bc you will win again in a year or two. Slovakia has a chance of doing well once every 15 years. So yes when we lose in this fashion in the last second of a game we deserved at least a tie in it’s a pain that you will never know.

Both teams had their warts out there today but overall played well and gave us a great game, like i said, some days in games so close it goes your way and sometimes it does not. Slovakia didnt lose that game because of the refs, like you said special teams kinda sunk them in the end but it was a razor thin win for Canada.

It was a great game to watch, best one of the tourney so far imo.

Terrible coaching by Ramsey again. 4 goals scored from a right circle and he made no adjustment. Also what an awful PK structure with no pressure at all, just standing in front of the net. Lazy PP with 5 min to go bit them in the ass. Slovakia had a chance to win and they blew it.
Rybar and Ciliak been both terrible last 2 games, would like to see Godla in the next game.
Tatar, Cernak and Sekera showed no leadership today.

On the positive side Liska was driving the net hard all night long. Have not seen that in a while from a young Slovak player.

I'll repeat this message until everyone gets it:

Everybody please calm down. The next posts that need to be deleted will earn their authors a warning.

Let’s not evaluate Slovakian fans based on couple of primitives, please. Of course it is completely irrational to boo an opponent´s anthem, but even more taking into account who’s our coach.

And even though the game ending was very emotional and people here can go mad quite easily, I don’t believe that the majority was acting that dumb.

That was probably the worst display of sportsmanship I have ever seen. Never mind the booing of the Canadian anthem, the throwing things at Canadian players including coins was an absolute disgrace. I hope any true Slovak hockey fan would be embarrassed with it.
there was a large majority of fans that tried to calm down the booing fans, our broadcasters also asked viewers at home to contact their friends at the stadium and make sure they stop this s***..so its not like the whole stadium participated in the antics..tough loss, but an entertaining game

Someday there will be AI refs watching these games and we all get finally rid off all kind BS decisions (or decisions that where not made)...

I understand and can feel some empathy for Slovaks, but that kind activity isn't ok. Display of utterly disrespectful unsportmanship.

Fantastic game. A very sad ending. An overtime would heve been juster. I didnt watch the anthem. I was too sad...

Could this have happened in Bratislava also? I mean that is the capital of the nation and so maybe citizens of Bratislava have more exposure to outside world and with that maybe more respect for different cultures? I dont know anything about Slovakia, but on the map it looks like Kosice is pretty deep in the "countryside".
