I’m a Canadian in Kosice watching the tournament. Up to this point we had been so impressed with how accepting and sportsmanlike the fans had been. My family and I watched the game at a bar where we were the only people cheering for Canada. A couple people in the bar were swearing at us and making us feel unwelcome after the game, it was so disappointing. In saying that we have absolutely loved Slovakia. The people are amazing and Kosice is so beautiful. What an amazing hockey game though, Slovakia should be very, very proud of their team. The refs were terrible for sure, but there was bad calls going both ways and the better team won. I’m not gonna let a few drunken sore losers sour my opinion of an amazing country and tournament

Great game, super exciting, lots of bounces and changes of momentum.

To the Slovak fans complaining about the reffing, I assume you were equally upset about the obvious cross check that created a 4-2 that the Slovaks scored on, and the delay of game penalty that was missed, and a "cross-check" with the biggest most embarrassing flop of the season getting called on us.

As to the fans, a little passion isn't that bad, I'm not big on the anthem after every game anyways. Like to see the emotion, mad for a very entertaining game.

I agree, so i dont understand why someone in this thread had to talk about u18? Canadians dont blame refs.
I for one know we didn't lose that under 18 because of the refs and had to tell Canadian fans in that very thread to knock it off when some of them were doing it.

You can check it out if you so choose. This blaming every single loss on the refs and conspiracy stuff when the team you cheers for doesn't get it done is a bore and quite frankly annoying and sickening. It's always the same posters too so that tells a person all you need to know about their mentality as sports fans.

Thought that penalties could have been called on both the Slovak 4th and 5th goals from the hi-lite package posted above by Maraz.

What happened to Severson this game? He was god awful.

Expected a bit more from Chabot imo

Yep. Unlike paris where they did nothing as hosts. Slovakia has gone an extra mile

Ah you're all a bunch of pansies.

I didn't see the game but from all accounts it was wildly entertaining, with passionate fans and their emotions running high. Doesn't upset me at all that they boo the anthem, throw things and voice their disappointment (anger)

Just a good old hockey game.:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

That’s great cool guy. I get that it wasn’t personal and that the crowd was venting their frustration , but certain lines should never be crossed.

after reviewing the game, i noticed that Brandon Montour was on in the ice for first 4 goals against TC. That is not good, poor defence.

Surely it was a great game, how many emotions it brought to Slovak fans during the 60 minutes of play. And that's what the sport is about and that's why we all love it. Loads of positive but on the end very negative emotions. it was a emotional rollercoaster for the fans. I felt it like that watching it at home, quietly - not to wake up my kids, imagine be on the stadium. so that's why the fans were boooing ,we are humans and they just vent their frustration. it is disrespectful and I don't appreciate such a behaviour but on the other hand consider the situation and I do understand why they did it. it started against the refs and then turned towards the canadien players. we have a history against Canada they had always dirty players in their ranks. do you remember foul on Lasak I think from rob Niedermayer that cost us a medals in whc Prague

Brutal luck for Slovakia.

If they had an actual goaler, they win this game 5-3.
What a cheap cop out, the goalie is part of the team, part of the reason why a team wins or loses, you have a bad one then it costs you and you lose and thus you didn't have the better TEAM. We may as well not even have goaltenders if their performance within the team is only counted if they play well.

Anyone can do this, hey, if Canada had prime Domink Hasek in nets today we would have won 3-0 then right?

Better team won today, move on.

Czech commentary if you don't mind it.

Welcome to HFboards. There's not as many Slovaks here as it used to be. Good to see that this tournament is bringing some new faces in, as I personally love discussing Slovak hockey and it's future. As depressing as the ending was to this game, it's one of the most entertaining hockey games I have ever watched and one I'll surely remember for a long time. And it's great to see Slovakia being competivie in this tournament against all the big hockey nations.

The atmosphere that is being put on in Slovakia is amazing.

Wish I could be there cheering on my Canadian team.

Definitely cheering for Slovakia in all their other games unless they play against Canada.

Good news, Slovak police has apparently called for a hearing a number of fans that were identified throwing stuff on ice. They absolutely deserve a punishment. It's a bad habit of Slovak fans that they used to do it a lot in the Slovak league. We're trying to fight it, but you can't teach primitives overnight. Fines and bans are the only way. Again apologies to the Canadians for the behavior of Slovak fans.
