These shootouts have given us amazing international hockey history. Such as Forsberg's great move in 1994, and Julie "The Cat" Gaffney's save against Iceland.

I think OT winners are more dramatic but whatever.

There are limits to how much OT you can have in a tournament format.

I don't consider shutups er shiiitouits to be amazing hockey. I would prefer the real thing.

Contrary to some of you the Olympics - playing for blood, country - is far more important than some Stanley Cup ring or $100,000,000.00 contract.

It's pretty simple. But I do think it's cultural (and to lesser extent generational - a lot of posters here are young and just expect that Olympics was always NHLers...or something). Canada has won how many Gold Medals? You guys probably don't care nearly as much as a country with 9 million like Sweden or Czech or Slovakia.

Ok. Now, what does this have to do with anything?

The Czech's, if things click, could win this entire tournament. Them winning one game against Canada isn't an upset. I would hardly even use the word 'upset' if this was a best on best tournament.

Better Canadians teams than this have lost to worse teams than the Czechs.

Even if Czech Republic beats Switzerland, as long as Canada destroys South Korea (which they will), they should be the best 2nd place team based on goal differential

Don’t count out the Swiss against the Czechs

Edit: well you said that already

I am calling for the resignation of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman for not allowing NHL players to play in this Olympics

I was joking. I guess I should have left the Forsberg part out of. I thought the Iceland remark would make it obvious enough, lol.

It's pretty simple. It's not hard to understand.

??????????

I said it WASNT an upset, I get completely that the teams here care about this olympics and that the teams are very evenly matched on paper. There really is no upsets here this year.

He gets it too and said so.

Whats your anger about?

The NHL and grown men playing a sport for millions of dollars is meaningless in the grand scheme of life. Representing your country is an honor that most people never ever get.

Our country comes to a standstill during a legitimate gold medal game.

You've won how many Gold Medals...15? You guys could put a 'C' team out there and still win. You invented the game.

People expect you to win. I'm surprised when you don't win. NHLers or even a farm team from Canada could/should win Gold every Olympics

Representing a city is a great honour too.

I could tell you what it was like in Ottawa when we made the Cup finals but you clearly have already made up your mind.

It’s a lot of pressure.

No one cares about silver and bronze when it comes to hockey in this country.

Securing a welfare for you and your family is pretty much the exact opposite of "meaningless" in the "grand scheme of life", while nationalistic posturing in some silly my-country-is-better-than-yours competition definitely is meaningless in the "grand scheme of life".

You are very confusing. Sorry but I have no idea what point you are trying to make. I simply said the Czech's beating Canada isn't an upset. You are talking about completely different things.

You realize what 'upset' in this context means right? It means 'big surprise' or 'highly unexpected'. I'm saying the Czech's winning isn't a big surprise. You seem to believe I'm saying that Canada shouldn't be upset they lost. That's a different meaning of the word 'upset' entirely.

It's important to make a living. I never said it wasn't. But all it boils down to is it is just entertainment. It adds up to dry shit in the end.

And if you think playing for or representing your country is meaningless you should inform all the athletes (other than millionaire NHLers) in the Olympics who put everything they have into it that. There's a lot of people there who aren't going to make much (if anything) to represent their nation.

So I tuned into my first game yesterday, Canada and Czechs .... man that is some bad hockey. Looks like shinny league out there. Hopefully the NHL gets it right and sends its players to 2022.

I think it’s a bit silly to say that one country’s athletes are more patriotic than another’s.

Well i guess right now this is best you can get after NHL . I think its good and watchable despite you clearly see the big gap between NHL and the rest. These guys mostly miss something to be in NHL but they would be dominant in AHL. I think euro leagues are on good direction with Champions league and more frequent confrontation. But I am not sure whether its enough to at least fix the gap between NHL and Europe.

I have to disagree with you. I think the AHL is leaps and bounds ahead of the Olympic teams. Most of these players didnt make their respective AHL teams. They are all castoffs from the NHL/AHL, and the hockey looks like its being played by castoffs. Poor passes, poor breakouts. Players falling and making crappy decisions with the puck. Turnovers galore. Players fumbling the puck. Its too bad the NHL took it to this, this olympic hockey is in no way a resemblance of the top players competing for their countries ... it's simply beer leaguers wearing their countries jerseys.

Too funny.

Looking forward to the day when MLB games are decided by a home run contest.

It’s too bad you missed the Can-Sui game.

It's clear that that person was being facetious. The 'Cat" Gaffney? He was being sarcastic.
