WTF is Virtanen doing?

Sticking up for his Captain.

Dumb move Virtanen. Really, really dumb move.

Not at all. Play a team sport and then talk about it when someone runs your team leader.

Someone tell JV to stop that ****!

Shifty....this is one time I gotta disagree with you...but I understand your sentiment. :)

Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold! lol

 Honestly...funniest post in the entire thread.

Isn't Virtanen basically Finnish?

Born in Canada...maple syrup through and through, as far as i'm concerned, along with anyone born and raised in the TNSAF.

You have to stick up for your captain when he gets hit from behind.

You got it. ;)

Oh God.

It is worth it. He just showed everybody watching this game that if you hit our guys from behind, you get a mitt in the nose.

Why is it the new Canadian thing to try and remove all emotion from our players? How has that served us lately?

It's because old school hockey isn't understood by the kiddies. Canadian hockey has always been its best, and imo finest, when it was predicated on emotions. It's about guts, glory, honor and emotions...as it should be.

Except it wasn't smart. I have seen refs throw a guy out for that, and it can potentially lead to supplementary discipline.

We need Virtanen against the Americans. There was no need to punch the Finnish guy. No need at all.

Boo-frickity-hoo.

He didn't take a full haymaker at the guys head. He was throwing small jabs that were being reciprocated. There is literally no way he was going to get suspended. The worst possible scenario was Finland getting a PP from it.

There was technically no need for Ritchie to hit the Finn near the end either. There was also no need to score the last two goals even. Get mad at those guys.

I love how there's like 5 different posters telling JayKing to "man up". Flexing your muscles on the internet!!

I personally was happy to see Virtanen do what he did but at the same time we all have our opinions on this kind of thing. Remember, we're talking hockey on a message board where lots of you are frothing at the mouth and getting your feathers rustled when someone "flames" or "trolls". Yes, so manly.

Good game to watch. Great pressure by Finland, just needed some better work around the net. A few thoughts for Canada:

Good game by Fucale. Interesting to see who plays vs USA.

Good game by Gauthier. Exactly what he was brought to do. If he continues playing that way, he will be a valuable member of the team. Crouse also looked very good.

Paul seemed lost this game, and Petan needs to stop trying to force the horizontal passes.

Defence looked sleepy and didn't battle well enough. That will need to improve against USA.

Samson has strong potential, he needs to let that rage for a few months and use a bit more product. He's on the right track though

Congrats Canada. Good game. Domi was unreal and Reinhart for sure.

3 games 3 losses 3 goals for Finland. Atleast we getto dinner on Sweden in quarters if someone manages to score versus germany.

Kassian >> Gretzky >>>>>> my Dad > Jesus

Like...what?

Haha.

My list was made based on this tournament, where Domi has been so much better than McK.

And Eichel is clearly the best of the whole pack, just go and see his game. About Nylander I don't know, havent seen him playing so I didn't feel like placing him to list. Also Puljujärvi is only 98' born, so he's veeeery high prospect.

Exactly, it's unnecessary after the initial "hey **** you that's my teammate." Say we go on the PK and Finland pulls their goalie...now we're in a really ****** position.

I love the "anyone who doesn't agree with me is soft!" line, it automatically wins arguments :help:

Have a little faith that the kid knows the flow of the game and what the refs are going to let him get away with.

He got two minutes. He did it right. If we had two go down a man and PK for two, it is still worth it.

Clean hit. Who gives a crap who it was?

Giving it rough to opponents cage warriors makes our cage warriors have a target on their backs. Younger doesn't have the same respect towards other players as adults do. That's the way it has always been.

Puljujärvi looks just as good if not better than Mcdavid and Eichel at same age in WJC despite not being on the scoresheet. He is basically only one on finnish team who is capable of carrying puck to the offensive zone with Honka.

Guess who has had same number of points as Puljujarvi in WJC? Me. Me=Puljujarvi. My dog=Puljujarvi.

COMPLETE SARCASM

He was fine. Nice try though.

He isn't supposed to be fine. He is supposed to be the next big thing since Crosby. Eichel was way more impressive against us. Even Puljujärvi played better than him tonight.

That saying Puljujärvi being one of our best players again along with Saros.

Also you got a heck of a first line.

Yep. Very difficult to get out of the zone, and almost 0 support in the offensive zone. It's just a bad crop compared to last year, but that was already obvious before the tournament. It'll take a small miracle to beat any of the top teams but it's doable.
It's funny since our 1998 and 1999 born defensemen are very good..

The only opinion that is correct is Canadian hockey is hard nosed and rough. You **** with our captain youre going to get a couple punches to the mouth. Thats how you build a team. I bet the guys in the locker room are patting Virt on the back.

Canadian hockey is all about backbone. Im tired of how the hockey world is going soft. Every rough play is put under the microscope. Its pathetic

A well-deserved win for Canada, no doubt. Finland had some good sequences, but the completely inefficient and unimaginative PP killed the chances we had to keep hanging on to the game.

Still, some steps were taken in the right direction and here's hoping scoring will come.

Yes I'm well aware goon antics are taught in Canada at a young age. That's why guys like Ritchie make it over Dal Colle

So you are not a fan of Canadian hockey. Glad we got to the bottom of this. Now it makes sense.

By the way, we were the more skilled team tonight as well. Some sick dangles out there, boys.

Great teams do it all.

I consider Team Canada's play to be absolutely great.
Remember watching Team Canada's style of play that year where Kadri did his charming throat slitting pantomime?
Now, that made me embarrassed.

I am loving this hockey. It is good winning hockey.

Well it's certainly not worth it to get suspended over a trivial hit, but that hissy fit that Virtanen threw just makes him look a bit ridiculous.
