So it is not about arrogance, because in terms of depth, basketball is a perfect example. In a few years Canada will be able to put 5 players on the floor that can be competitive against any country in the world. But if the US put their 90th-95th best against our 90th-95...good God that would be humiliating. I might have to play in that game. LOL

Just reality.
 
AND I WOULD DISAGREE. 80 to 100?? Dismantle any team in Biblical terms? Not sure of your God but you must pray often,

You disagree that Canada's 80th to 100th best players could dismantle any other team's 80th to 100th best players?

Do you understand the depth Canada has?

I will not say that your 20 is not as good as our top 20. They are virtually the same. But the drop off is less significant here as anywhere else. It is all about numbers.
 
Totally different imo. The US has been assembling a hockey program for years. Im not sure about Canadian basketball but really not a good comparison.

Actually it is a great comparison. Who is your 80th best junior player?
 
I just think that the United States hockey programs have pretty much caught up with the Canadians per se. Are they better? No. Im not saying that. On par, yes I think so
 
Are you serious? Basketball can and is encouraged in EVERY urban neighborhood.

Let's say our 80th best player is Matt McCarron of the London Knights. He is about 20th in OHL scoring, so when you take into account defensemen, goalies, the other leagues, etc. That is likely pretty accurate.

He is one point ahead of the USA's final cut who I think was Cole Cassells. So our 80th best player is about the same as your 22nd or 23rd.

By the time you get to 80, it is going to be much weaker.

OK great but our 80th best basketball player, in the USA, would obliterate #80 from Canada not being rude or homerish

Oh, but it gets better... because if Canada is taking its 80th best player and thereabouts, they'll just... take Cole Cassels.

I know man. That's what I said earlier. I would likely have to play in that game and we would lose 530-3.
 
Do I think USA is better? No

Do I think USA is the biggest threat to beat Canada in a 1 game winner take all? Yes

I think most Canadian and American fans would agree.

I also think that a USA CAN game at any level is almost guaranteed to be a great hockey game.

AND SERIOUSLY, Im not bashing Canadian basketball!!! I just think imo that USA hockey has made strides faster than Canadian basketball :)

Exactly. As good as the usntdp is, they seem to rely a fair bit on guys who couldn't make Team Canada. You get to their first alternate and it's a Canadian with a US passport - once you get to 80? I shudder to think.
 
I feel like we are going to see this matchup again.

What an unbelievable game. This was the WJHC at its finest. The US is a great team, but i thought Canada controlled the game, especially in the second and third period. That being said, in a one game showdown, when you face a great goalie like Demko, the US was still right there in the end.

I think they will beat Russia and possibly meet again in the Finals against Canada. I think Canada and USA are the two best teams in the tournament. Canada has a clear lane towards the Gold Medal Game. They should beat Denmark and either Czechs or Slovaks. I think in a Semi-Final Game, the States would beat Sweden or Finland, especially with Demko in net, who made some unbelievable saves in the game. Would love to see a rematch in the Gold Medal Game. Happy New Years Day to everyone!
 
I was at the Russia Czech game. Best parts was the canada-USA feed on the big screen. :laugh:
