i was born and raised in canada. grew up with hockey, played hockey, everything was hockey, hockey, hockey. loved it.
i've lived in the states for five years now and i can say with certainty that hockey is canada's game.
and that's not an insult to my fellow americans, it's just how it is in canada because there aren't as many options up there. i live in the carolinas and my kids are old enough to start playing sports. they're interested in baseball, basketball and golf. hockey? not so much, which is kinda heartbreaking for me as a kid who grew up in canada. but now i'm just a product of my environment and so are my kids.
there are pockets and regions down here in the states where hockey is obviously very popular, and it's really cool that areas that wouldn't be considered hockey hot-beds have teams and leagues too, and are even starting to develop noticeable talent.
and as a hockey fan, the coolest thing about living down here in the states is NCAA college hockey. omg, it's freaken awesome. yes, canada has awesome minor league development leagues, but if my son/girl end up playing hockey somewhere, I'd hope they choose to go the route of american college hockey.
so ya, canada is the shiz when it comes to hockey because kids are a product of their environment (not a slam against my fellow canadians either)
sorry for super long post....my coffee is just kickin' in
edit...also like to add that i'd be ok if my kids don't wanna play hockey or football. when you become a parent, all you think about are how the kids could get injured.
really pushing for golf
