Post-Game Talk: Grinding out wins like we’re constipated

I swear they need to separate turnover stats to offensive zone vs defensive zone. They are miles different. Takeaways too
I agree. A takeaway is much different than a giveaway. One is an excellent play the other is a bone head play.

I also think that a penalized player in the box should get a minus if the team is scored on.

Turnovers is a stat that doesnt matter.

Players trying to make plays with the puck will have more turnovers.
So Bouchard giveaways don't matter?
When McDavid trys a pass through 2 or three opponents i would classify that as a takeaway for the other team. If Bouchard passes it directly to the other team that is a giveaway. If McDavid passes it directly to the other team with nobody between it's a giveaway. I Draisaitl blindly backhands it to the blueline it may be a giveaway or a takeaway.

Would have to be a judgemental call. They are different.

Any of the usuals here complaining about Oilers turnovers should look at the Rangers baking dozens of hot turnovers every period. What a hopeless club. Rangers are the least disciplined team with the puck. We got a lot of looks tonight.

Rangers are crazy bad. Looked like guys getting golf clubs out. I thought they were trying to feed our goals.
They looked incredibly disinterested which is shocking for a team battling for their playoff lives. If any franchise needs an enema it's that one.

Not to take away from the Oilers who played a decent game but the Rangers sure made it easy on them.

Edit: The Rangers did play 3 in 4 nights and on a second of a back to back so perhaps that explains it

I thought the Podz-RNH-Arvid line was fairly noticeable (in a good way) last night. When Hyman, Kane, Frederic are all healthy...there will be some interesting choices to make line-up wise.

Podz is hard to figure out where to put in the line-up. Teammates love him, and occasionally he shows some flashes (thought the pass behind the net to RNH was great) but at the end of the day, the lack of offence is tough to figure out where to put him.

I still think we'll see the Arvid investment pay out fully in the playoffs.

Concerned about the lingering Ekholm injury (virus?). If he's not back fully, that's a big hit for playoff chances.
Very concerning. He's got a core injury. Nothing worse when it comes to mobility as well as complications.

Also, I have to think that, in a perfect word, podzilla sits when we get Frederic and Kane back. He's not bringing much of anything. I'm just worried about who slots in as 4C if Frederic moves up the lineup.

And you know Knobby is going to choose anyone else over Skinner.

Sure those matter, but just blindly pointing to the turnover number doesn’t tell the story.

Neat Skinner stats.

Skinner playing after Pickard wins his start:
10-2-2
0.925 sav%

Skinner other starts (Pickard didn't win our last game):
13-15-2
0.883 sav%

Skinner brings it when Pickard steals the show the game before. I feel like I've seen this a dozen times this year where Pickard has a great game and everyone (including me) is saying he should be our starter, but Skinner almost always shuts everyone up with his next game after. I guess it's basically been ~a dozen times. But then inevitably back to same old Skinner if he keeps getting more starts after that or Pickard is doing his own faltering.

Seems like some real motivational quirks going on with The Stache.
So the lesson is - never start Skinner two games in a row?

Any time someone accuses someone else of being related to Skinner you can just tell they are fuming.

I don't even think Skinner has been good this season but people definitely dump on him way more than necessary. There's no need to get upset just because someone else doesn't want to blame every bad thing that happens to this team solely on Skinner.
You’re talking to the guy who blames McDavid and draisaitl any chance he gets while defending skinner.

He was almost shocked he scored lol

"Snipe", now that's hilarious 😂 Only on HFOil is this a considered a "snipe" and is being praised as some exceptional shot.

The shot deflected off the dmans stick and changed direction, which handcuffed Shesty

If that goes in on Skinner, full meltdown on here.

The double standard on here continues to be strong

You get shit on for everything when you have been bad all season. This is nothing new or exclusive to Skinner.

Not sure what's the need to crap on one of the premiere goalies in the league. Even his worst season, his numbers is still better than any goalies we have right now.

Skinner had a good game. Let's leave it at that

I just realized Dallas has been less than mid with Rantanen. They needed a Dman not a forward. I think they needed a guy like Jake Walman.

I'm glad we stole him

The Stars are by far the least scary of the contending teams by a long shot IMO.

They lost to us last year because of poor defensive depth, and a total lack of physicality and intensity from their forwards. Exact same problems exist this year.

I missed most of the game but glad to see Jeff Skinner getting some opportunities with McDavid. He's looked really good for the last couple of months now. With the issues they're having scoring, maybe they'll just leave him with McDavid for the rest of the season and hope that they catch lightning in a bottle. Just need him to get hot for 20 games.

Guys like Rantanen don't come around every year. Dallas can get a #4 D in the offseason. And Heiskanen will be back in the playoffs.

There was at least three separate occasions where the Oilers completely lost the puck right in front of Skinner. They did not manage the puck well whatsoever.
