Yeah that's pretty awful for the Canucks. Nothing in that package is enticing.
They definitely wouldn't be getting the best player in the deal, but they'd be getting two NHL-ready assets under the age of 25. They'd also be adding a RD, which is their main position of need and he'd be one of their top prospects right out of the gate. This is the kind of trade that would be counter to what Benning's trades have looked like in the past.
Assuming they could get an established player like Fiala instead, why would they? He's an RFA who is probably going to sign for well beyond his current AAV in a year. The Canucks are currently committed to a $70m payroll next year with Boeser, their backup, a Dman and their entire checking line still left to sign. And the team is still bad.
