Don Luce's NHL career began in 1969-70, with the New York Rangers. He played 12 games, and spent the rest of that season in the CHL with the Omaha Knights. Ahead of him at center/centre with the Blueshirts were Jean Ratelle, Walt Tkaczuk, Orland Kurtenbach and (before he was traded to theLos Angeles Kings) Juha Widing. Luce did play in five of the Rangers' six playoff games against the Boston Bruins.

Behind the Bruins' bench. Love these shots - small as they are. View attachment 428818Harry Sinden and Eddie Shack (who is well aware of the photo being taken. Photographers from that era really had a great sense for how to contextualize on-ice action by making the crowd an active part of the scene.

Detroit's Silver Age.
detroit.jpg
From the 1960s until the early 1990s, the Red Wings' Golden Age was deemed to be the period from 1947-48 until 1955-56. During that period, Detroit reached the Stanley Cup Final seven times, finished first seven times and won the Stanley Cup four times. Each of the gentlemen seen here* - who wore the Flying Wheel at some point during that period - would earn himself induction in to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Ted Lindsay is the one notable omission from the image.

(* Marcel Pronovost, Terry Sawchuk, Red Kelly, Sid Abel, Alex Delvecchio and Gordie Howe)
