Flashing his "I escaped the mines" smile. Had he known he had 22 seasons of NHL hockey to look forward to, Dean's smile might have been even broader.

Sorry to present this here, but couldn't find an appropriate thread.
Does anyone know what year these came from? I bought them at an antique show because I thought they looked old. No history was given.

Just from the looks of it, I'd start at 1940 and go from there. It has a Bill Durnan, Turk Broda sort of design. Much earlier and you get articulated fingers like a skater glove, much later and you get the web like a baseball glove.

Thanks. Seemed like they were not designed for the goalie to make glove saves and I'll guess he had two hands on the stick. Lots of padding on the backside so smothering the puck in the crease was the goalie's best bet.

Exactly. Looking at it on a larger screen than before, it looks like the fingers actually are articulated, made to pull away from the padded backside. That's definitely with intent to create a grip on his stick.

Standard goaltending technique in that era was for the goalie to knock the puck down and then sweep it away quickly. This style of glove helped them make that sweeping motion quickly, to get to the rebound first.

TBH they were probably pretty nice gloves at the time. They look really well stitched and nicely designed.
