Cesare Maniago and Lorne "Gump" Worsley. While playing together in Minnesota, they could compare stories of having played in New York and Montreal.

Not really a photo - but thought it would be of interest. Years ago, I sent Lorne Carr a 1930s matchbook cover to have him sign. This is a note he sent back with it.

Can't remember seeing the match book in New York. Patrick never let me play in a game. Dressed for about 25 games and not once got to play. Patrick wasn't so great for me. L Carr

I don´t know if it is great picture, but one that I first did see only recently. Newspaper photo of Lester Patrick in goalie gear with Victoria from 1923. Most know that Lester Patrick dressed as goalie for Rangers in Stanley Cup finals, but that was far from the first time he served as goalie. He had many times served as penalty replacement goalie (once even scored a goal while being one) and dressed as goalie for practices and training camp. Played even full practice games in camps. I honestly feel he kind of liked it. :)

As a bonus a clip from newspaper when Lester Patrick scored from end to end rush with Edmonton Pros while being Bert Lindsay´s penalty replacement.

The Ottawa Citizen 4 Jan 1909
It was here that Lester Patrick tore off the most spectacular stunt of the evening. No game which he take part would be complete without end-to-end rush by Patrick so Lester proceeded to show what he could do just before the bell rang. Patrick had backed off into the nets while Lindsay was off. Alf Smith went in and shot and Patrick saving with his shins, turned the rubber to one side and then started on his long jaunt. Side stepping Harry Smith and Harrison, Patrick with that wide sweeping movement for which is famous, covered the ice at lightning speed. The other players resembled ten-pins as Patrick swung in and out. The crowd seemed to expect something of Patrick and there was a cheer as big fellow drew up to Baird and Moore; Swerwing to one side. Patrick eladed Baird and then as Moore reached for him he dodged the other way, shooting the puck into the corner of the nets, Lester skated off as though it were easy money and the spectators applauded him to the echo.

The 75 we see here refers to the 75 goals Michel Briere scored for the Shawinigan Bruins in 1968-69, in 50 regular season games.

We often see those prehistoric goalkeepers posing with their stick off to one side, as if to stop a shot with the stick blade if possible. Did they really play that way?
