Six Wings kill time at a Depression-era soda counter in Detroit before their final road trip of the 1933 season.

Left to right: Herbie Lewis, Bob Davis, John Ross Roach, Ebbie Goodfellow, Doug Young, Johnny Sorrell.

Goodfellow's relaxed expression may have to do with a love for diner food, but it was probably because he was the only guy staying behind to rest an injury.

Johnny Bower played parts of seven seasons with the Cleveland Barons - of the AHL - before being acquired by the New York Rangers. He played all 70 of the Blueshirts' games in 1953-54. In 1954-55, Bower played in just 5 games with New York. Gump Worsley replaced him as the starting goalie. In 1955-56, Johnny spent the entire season with the Providence Reds - the Rangers' farm team. In 1956-57, he played just two games with the Blueshirts. In 1957-58, Bower was back in Cleveland. In 1958-59, he was back in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he would play for 12 seasons.

Rick Martin was chosen fifth overall in the 1971 Amateur Draft. Guy Lafleur was chosen first (Montreal), Marcel Dionne (Detroit) went second, Jocelyn Guevremont (Vancouver) was selected third, and Gene Carr (St. Louis) was chosen fourth. Martin scored 44 goals in 1971-72, and would reach the 40-goal mark five times in his career. Twice he scored 50+ goals in a season.

Gene Carr - selected by St. Louis fourth overall in the 1971 Amateur Draft - played just 14 games with the Blues before he was traded to the Blueshirts. Emile Francis sent Jack Egers, Andre Dupont and Mike Murphy to St. Louis for Jim Lorentz, Wayne Connelly and Carr. Connelly was traded to Vancouver the next day, and Lorentz played just five games in New York before being sent to Buffalo.

Ronald "Chico" Maki - seen here with linemates Phil Esposito and Bobby Hull never did and never will get his due. As a junior with the St. Catharines Tee Pees - in 1959-60 - Maki led the OHL in points and led his team to the Memorial Cup Championship. In 1961-62, he was the top rookie in the AHL. In 1962-63, Chico began playing regularly in the NHL with the Chicago Black Hawks - and would play his entire career with them. On a line with Hull and Esposito, Maki did the dirty work of forechecking and backchecking. He understood that his role was to get the puck to Hull, and get back in a hurry if his line lost the puck. Also, Chico demonstrated a willingness and ability to play a checking role.

The puck is in the Rangers' end, and here we see five Rangers and Stan Mikita - well positioned for a pass from the boards. With Mikita we see Rod Seiling (16), Gilles Villemure (30), Walt Tkazcuk (18) and Jim Neilson (15) who appears to have noticed an interloper in the crease.

Jurassic separatist protest at the 1971 World Championships in Switzerland.

Doubtful. They're not even pretending to be dinosaurs.

On a serious note, I had no idea the English adjective referring to the area in Switzerland is actually "Jurassic". Somehow I thought that term was only for the geological period and I'm susprised there isn't another English adjective for the actual mountains and Canton in Switzerland, e.g. Jurassian.

I had to Google it because I thought it was an autocorrect mix-up. This is the first time I’ve ever seen “Jurassic” used to mean something other than the age of dinosaurs.
