^^ Geez I liked that guy... Jim Craig .... like he left everything on the ice in Lake Placid ... conquered Everest & that was that.... then had a huge Rep to live with .... not completely uncommon as weve seen it at various times over the years & decades with players coming out of elite amateur to Junior, Junior & NCAA to pro, internationally..... transition to the pro game rocky to say the least for Jimmy .... gotta feel for him.

I agree. He played only 30 games in the NHL over parts of 3 seasons with a GAA of 3.78 during his time. Such high expectations placed on him but unable to measure up to them.

Yeah, and from what Ive read he did struggle mightily with the expectations placed on him which I think were unfair. I watched him really closely during the 80's Olympic Games & frankly he made me pretty nervous at times, clearly lacking some fundamentals & did get lucky on numerous occasions. He was incomplete but had tremendous potential. Too much was expected of him too soon. Unfinished product yet they just threw him into the deep end like he was a finished product. The idiots wrecked him. Gets all lit up, once confidence is gone, can be a total killer for a goalie. Waste really.

And say.... myself, never much cared for the Barons "look", jerseys etc. Looks like it was all done on the cheap to me.

Is that Russian guy 12 feet tall? Jeez!!!
That pick was from the face off of the 1972 Summit Series.

Here is a Soviet giant of the here celebrating winning 1981 Canada Cup team. I believe it's Zhluktov, who had tied Bobby Orr and Denis Potvin for scoring in the 1976 Canada Cup despite playing less games.

When looking for the Soviet celebration photo of the 1981 Canada Cup I came across this photo of tourney-leading-scoring Gretzky in a position of extreme disappointment, showing he was no stranger to the feeling he had in the 1998 Olympics.

March 31, 1971 - prior to the game, Maple Leafs captain Dave Keon presents Gordie Howe with a silver tray in recognition of Howe's upcoming retirement at the end of the season. Both players would later become teammates as members of the New England Whalers (WHA) and then Hartford Whalers (NHL) with Howe retiring a second time following the 1979-80 season.

Now what's going on here? That Canuck in the background has the logo for the home whites on his jersey! And appears to have some patch on his shoulder that the other players don't have! Hmmm... a pre-season game perhaps with patched-up jerseys for the "scrubs" not likely to make the team? "V" design on the sleeve places this in 70-71 or 71-72...

Before goalies had the idea to widen their equipment to fill up more of the net, guys like Gamble and Dave Dryden took to wearing muttonchop sideburns to slow down any pucks that might go whizzing past their ears...

Yes quite historically important as it is the only time a Russian or Soviet hockey team ever won a best on best competition against Canada.
