Good thing the league is gonna get us in. CHI wins 4-1

I witnessed way too many sub par seasons by the Kings to get bummed out when they still have a chance to get in the playoffs. I'm personally still playing with house money.

Yep. I had season tickets starting in 2002 - talk about horrible timing. I laugh when I here people say this year's team is mediocre at best. Those dead era 2000's teams were mediocre at best. God, what awful hockey that was. We've been spoiled the last few years (and deservedly so given the prior 40!).

I don't care how they get in, they just have to get in. I don't care if Toffoli slips Byfuglien a roofie and buries him at sea. Just get in. They're a contender if they make the playoffs.

Was I pissed about the game vs. Chicago? Of course. But they're one of the few teams in the league who, much like the Kings, just has that extra gear and never-say-die attitude. And they've had our number for quite some time, so yeah.

I'm pulling for either Calgary or Winnipeg to fall out. Oh man, how amusing it would be to see the main board go nuclear with conspiracies about the NHL being all anti-Canadian.

Hey, at least this performance didn't come right before the last two-day break in the regular season, to give us all that much more time to pick and work at this sore...

...waitwut?

1. Any Original Six team at its best is objectively constantly seen as a standard/measuring stick and last night was no exemption.

2. And yet, the most valuable NHL franchise is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, clocking in at US$1.3B; even better, according to the most recent Foreign Exchange rate, 1,646,528,000 Canadian dollars.

I also want to add, fwiw, that more than one hawks fan had pointed out that last night was "the best game they've played in months."

Kings have had to face stuff like that all year and no excuses at this point, but if there's one team doing that that can cause trouble, it's the Hawks.

Again, I'm more miffed about the Minnesota game than the Hawks game, and knew it would come down to the final stretch, though I anticipated the road trip being worse. Only thing left to do is smile and enjoy the ride because we get at least 6 playoff games here.

I said in the other thread too that I'm resigned to just enjoying it. If we make it, cool. We know what this team is capable of in a 7-game series.

If not, cool. Some guys finally get some well-deserved rest that doesn't involve surgery, we finally get away from the **** luck that has plagued us all year, we get a mid-to-high draft pick, these guys are embarrassed and get a chip back on their shoulders to go with the rest, and DL is forced to cut emotional ties and build some youth into the team.

Losing to the Hawks or Wild didn't bum me out, it was the way they lost and how they were never "in it" that was so discouraging to watch. Like how the first two games in San Jose were last year in the first round. The Kings were hemmed in their end of the ice for most of the game with little pushback.

Let's hope.

The really funny thing is; that was a bad road team as well.

The 2011-12 Kings only won 18 road games, then never lost on the road in the playoffs till the Finals. If the Kings win out or go 5-1/4-2, they can end up with, you guessed it 18 wins on the road...:)

They fell into the old habits of the losing ways, which is what concerned me the most. Giving up goals in bunches. Deflating after giving up a score. Giving up seemingly more chances than shots.

The first dominant regular season this core has (if they ever have one) 105+ points talking here. They get bounced in the first round. Mark my words lol.

Kings were on pace for 101 points during the lockout season which would have been pretty impressive. They would've blown it though. They also had only 40 wins in 2011-2012.

For comparison sake, the Kings need to have a target on the Jets. Here are schedules compared -

Kings - Oilers, Avalanche, Canucks, Oilers, Flames, and Sharks.
Jets - Rangers, Canucks, Wild, Blues, Avalanche, and Flames.

Kings have to go 5 of 6 at least.

Have they ever had a dominant season like that? They've only had one division title in their entire history.

I believe they had 105 points in the 70's which is a club record. They had 101 points in 2010 and 102 points in the early 90's. I looked earlier.

As I said earlier, this team has been playing quite well since the all star break. The problem is they dug themselves such a big hole before that, they still haven't climbed out yet. People are expecting to win every game because they almost need to but that is a bit unreasonable.

Chicago played a great game and they are a team the Kings have struggled with since Quenville has been there. They also suck in that building. That's why I'm a bit perplexed by some of the reactions to to the loss last night. I guess it is because it is coming down to the wire and the Kings are still on the outside looking in. But if you look at their play over the past few months, it has been quite good. If they played like that for all 76 games so far, we wouldn't be having these types of conversations.

This is how I saw it too. The bad habits from Dec punched a hole in the ice and the Kings fell in.As well as Quick played keeping it at 3-1, even he wasn't immune, although the bad goal came off turnover, it was a goal he should've stopped.
