Post-Game Talk: Good teams find ways to win bad games

Games like the last two are almost always a chore to watch.

It's either a blowout or a closer game that is frustrating because you should theoretically be blowing them out.
Midseason dregs. A month before the stretch happens and this year just before the mind numbing 4 Nations cup. Gonna be some dog games for the next while I suspect.

I don't blame the team too much. The Kraken were lulling the Oilers into beer league hockey last night. Whats with the pucks? They seem to be not frozen last couple games. Maybe somebody should mention it. ;)

Unless the NHL expands to San Francisco...
Vancouver will also be looking for coaches again soon enough. Sets watch. I'm old fashioned.

Seattle and Vancouver are like orphaned twins. More in common with each other than the respective countries, states or provinces they happen to be located in.

I don't think anybody would miss either if they started their own republic or division. Both teams deserve to be playing each other and nobody else 80X times a year. White skates and crying on the bench encouraged. Both arenas could be named Climate crying rain arena.

Just looking at the schedule it doesn't look like it will feel "meaningful" again until about mid-March. Until then there are a lot of games against boring/irrelevant/Eastern/shitty opponents.

Will likely be a slog to get through mentally for the group, but winning these games before the more difficult portion of the schedule down the stretch is critical if they have eyes on the Conference or President's title.

You're right, they should've hired Dallas Eakins. He has an NHL resume.

Eakin's had a very solid resume PRIOR to being hired as a head coach. He's since demonstrated his inability to be effective at the NHL level. You KNOW this. Intentionally obtuse takes like this are why you have zero credibility on this board.

Dang, how will I possibly sleep at night? The NHL is a recycling bin full of garbage at all levels. This is why we keep hiring past their due date GMs.

Ya the Oilers did look off last night but if not for the goaltending of Daccord the Kraken would have been a bug splatter on the windshield !! 🐞 ;)

This was actually even an odd night for Daccord. Normally he's better with the pucks. heh. But yeah most games it seems its only goaltending keeping Seattle even in games. They're next level bad. SJ level bad. See a team there just giving up. Somebody check to make sure Eberle or Gourde are really injured or just sick of being around there.

Seattle could maybe be our Farm team. That would be OK with me.

I fully understand why in theory a team would be penalized for a lost challenge but the inconsistency of the NHL in such cases makes the penalty after a lost challenge even more egregious.
This was the expressed concern with the rule when it was first devised. By nature its a ruling that amplifies the cost of officiating errors. You'd think that odd, that it increases the probability that flawed calls influence results. Then you snap to and realize this is the NHL and that random parity is wanted.

"I tried looking at the Seattle board to see any of their opinions on this but they took a climate pledge not to waste electricity being online. Or something."

Genuinely f***ing hilarious line. LOL

Made me blow bubbles in my coffee you son of a gun
Glad you liked that one. I throw that stuff in the middle of tl;dr posts to see if anybody is reading. heh

Yeah, Pickard deserved the 1st star being great shutting things down after the 2nd goal (which I didn't like but those goals happen), but Daccord made some good stops that felt like sure fire goals, even if he might have liked to have the Perry one back (we're told here that breakaways are automatically goals against anyhow :D )

Is Klinger in for Detroit? Not sure the shopping list now.

I think that management will feel they have the 2nd R defense filled and I don't see any way they can upgrade the goaltending unless they run 3 goalies which I doubt. Pickard gets taken 100% on waivers if they bring someone in and Skinner is their guy so they ain't trading him.

So now I feel they will go after some bottom 6 grit, and extra defensemen for insurance and a top 6 forward.

What say you?

They really have to try and see what they have in Klingberg before the TDL.
This ultra stupid mid season 4 Nations Cup BS doesnt help.

Looks like they're taking a climate pledge to not make the playoffs so they don't have to keep the power on in the arena for any games :D
The wet coast clubs just keep giving the gift of unintended humor. Too bad Portlandia can't get a franchise. Vancouver and Seattle are providing all the far coast satire.

They need company!

I think at least for the likes of McDavid, MacKinnon, or Crosby, they would be happy to finally play WITH each other on the same team.
But yeah outside of it, I even find the 4 Nations Cup dull and could care less about it. Also, when ol Bobfather Stauffer was saying last week when he was going on a full tirade rant about the NHL after they suspended McDavid, they're still having issues selling tickets in Montreal out of all cities, then you know the 'hype' for this tournament is pretty much meh.

I would have a lot less issue with this if it wasnt played right in the middle of the NHL season.
I mean who dreamed that scheduling disaster up?
What happens if a player gets injured?
Then his team pays the price for a tournament that means absolutely nothing and it also impacts the SC playoffs.
It even compresses the NHL season which means more games played in a condensed schedule which in turn raises the liklihood of increased injuries during the season...and for what?

In all honestly this whole thing is moronic.
Im very glad to hear that ticket sales are not what they expected.

When it comes to the 4 Nations BS the NHL can go f*ck themselves as far as Im concerned.
I wouldnt waste a minute of my time watching it much less buying a ticket.

Re: Jessica Campbell

I’m pretty sure she was hired because she had worked with Bylsma during his time coaching the Seattle farm team.

It’s really no different than Woodcroft hiring Manson as his assistant.

Now you can criticize with hindsight the wisdom in those hirings but to say she was hired solely because she was a woman is wrong imo.

The best pk players we had last night were the Seattle Kraken. It was Monday but otherwise could be a drinking game of how many times do they f*** up and lose the puck even before hitting the line. It was hilarious. The Oilers weren't even having to do much beyond being in position.

Another comment but whatever players make a the dump pass back to the trailer on a 5 on 3 should be shot into the sun. You're just wasting time on the 5 on 3 doing that. But they seriously had trouble gaining zone on a 5 on 3. I almost wanted the Kraken to get more PP's just to see how much worse it would look and for the Oilers to get lots of scoring chances.

I tried looking at the Seattle board to see any of their opinions on this but they took a climate pledge not to waste electricity being online. Or something.

I think the Kings could miss playoffs. Unless Doughty injects them with something when he comes back but I doubt it. That team is sinking. Really they're losing to anybody lately.

Lol I mean I'd take the krakens players, I'd take the coach, I'd take the krakens coach...

The goaltender that didn't face a shot though? Really?

Like how dumb do they think we are that we'll fall for that level of goaltender glazing? I mean, I guess some here think Skinner is elite, so what do I know...
