Post-Game Talk: Good teams find ways to win bad games

I consider the last bit of the oilers playing to be their losing slide. We are racking up wins though because we have a good team so all it takes is a great performance by a few players or a goalie and we get a win where I the past it would be a loss

Can't remember which baseball manager said it but he said "look you'll win 1/3 of games no matter what. It just plays out like that. And you'll lose 1/3 of your games for the same reason. It's what you do with the other 1/3 of games that determines how successful your team will be."

So yeah, these annoying slog wins are still what separates us from the pack.

Knoblaugh on the challenge. Mentions the disallowed in YVR tonight as well as several other specific examples that were disallowed. Goes on to say … “We are very aware of the precedents around the league for disallowed goals. I felt that was right in line with what has been disallowed. “

This was the disallowed goal in St Louis for reference. Hughes clearly shoved Holloway into the goalie but the goal was waved off because Holloway entered the crease on his own (but didn’t touch the goalie). The exact same thing happened in our situation but we didn’t get the call.

For the record, I think both of them should’ve been good goals. Don’t blame Knoblauch for challenging if he was watching the Canucks game one hour before ours though.

What does Arvidsson do?

Did Jeff Skinner play tonight?
No, which is just odd considering he finally got one last game after not being able to buy one for ages. You think the coaching staff would try and get him to spark some confidence.

And once again, another 1 PP game where there must have been 5 or 6 blatant penalties that weren't called against us. Unbelievable. 6 games out of 13 in January where we've had a single PP opportunity in a game. Once again, DON'T SUPPORT THIS LEAGUE! Pirate games, don't go to games, don't buy merch.

So I figured I'd dive a little further into the Seattle PP as I figured it was the worst PP I've ever seen in the NHL. Third period telecast helped to inform me Jessica Campbell is coach of the Kraken PP. I'm not sure even she, after this game, would want anybody to know that.

Several times the broadcast which is usually charitable to opponents was dunking on how horrid the Kraken PP was. I would say completely lost. They don't have a clue what they're doing. Even on an extended 5 on 3 they couldn't gain zone. She was looking awfully perplexed, and they even had a timeout to straighten it out and nothing. I just automatically expected this must be the worst PP in the league, right? Amazingly 6 NHL clubs have an even worse PP %. But I suspect this is due to trouble finishing for some clubs. In the Krakens case they don't even generate, they weren't even gaining zone or getting shots. This on a night the Oilers probably played one of their worst games of season.

So this is a problem for the justice signalling Kraken now. They go out and do this big song and dance about the Female NHL coach and now due to optics they can't fire her. I'd kind of assume she's not particularly good at her role and I cite the utter confusion on the PP, but they can't get rid of her. Now she's there, and its a potential dilemma. The Kraken really as a franchise seem to have no clue. Could see this club really hitting the rocks hard. They got some off priorities this org. Seems to be no play beyond optics and playing in Climate Pledge arena etc.

Anybody else feel similarly that the Kraken PP is just abysmal? Why is she coaching? Well we know the reason, doesn't appear to be merit.

I'm still left wondering. What a doofus penalty to take though 200ft from own net. Arvid it seems is solely responsibly for taking 5X more shots than he should and finishing hardly anything.

To be fair they're missing Eberle and Gourde. Our PP looked like shit without McDavid.

Did I watch a different game then everyone else? Fans on Oilers nation after dark are were calling out Bouchard. I don't get the Bouchard hate.

With Bouchard on the ice High danger chances were 7-2, scoring chances were 17-6, CF was 28 and CA was 15. He's probably out best dman 5v5 tonight but we only seem to focus on the negative.

Seems to me that fans just hate high event guys who try and make plays and push offence. I get he looks lazy at times but that's just who he is.

Fans don't hate the high event guys, they just hate it when high event plays don't work out.
Bouchard passes up on great scoring chances only to take lame shots later on that miss the net or get blocked.
Getting one pass through to a teammate per game may make you a ppg player but doesn't really mean you are a quality top pairing one.

Same goes for Draisaitl.. ended up with a point but he had plenty of unforced giveaways tonight while trying the low percentage cute shit

It looks poop even with McDavid.
2nd unit is better than 1st.

Eberle wouldn't even be on our PP in 2024 and Gourde isn't much either. These two are not of a current caliber that should be explaining such an incredibly bad PP. These are pro players and topsix players. Should be able to muster even a zone entry up two players. It was hilarious. The PP was so bad that if this was home ice for Kraken the fans would probably boo.

Jordan Eberle is almost done. He was terrible on PP last season and really not producing.

Yanni Gourde at age 33 is a complete nothing burger. We're talking about two guys that don't produce squat when in they're in the Kraken lineup. I know all the noise emanating from Seattle is how dearly they miss these two, they said that every home broadcast. I'm not buying its the reason the Kraken suck, and that their PP sucks. These two are not difference makers either.

I think Seattle are inventing excuses for how bad they are. The team is sinking fast.

The real problem on the Kraken start with franchise highest pick Matty Beniers. For s 2nd pick he's not a lot. he was looked and pencilled to be the star of a franchise. He's barely noticeable.

Seems to me you're right and that its often this way on the board. For a D that was over PPG you forgive the mistakes. Booch has been scapegoat # 1 seemingly this season.

I wouldn't make a sweeping statement about her coaching ability from one game. Have you watched the Oilers PP some nights? Lol

I was thinking the same thing tonight and wondering how they’d survive the PR nightmare of firing her. It’s funny. Maybe they could offer her the head coaching position on their AHL team and call it a promotion.
