The 13th forward, where he would probably be isn't a spot I would want to see taken up by a young forward. Sitting in the press box playing sporadically wouldn't be good for their development.

Why in the heck would we bring in Scott Gomez if we planned to use him as a 13th forward? I would figure we would keep a defensively responsible checker as a 13th forward over an ineffective scorer. If we need a scorer, we could call him up from the Marlies.

You use him as a 13th forward until he earns more time or responsibility. It is a very compact season do you plan to call up a marlie once a week? What about when some one cant play on short notice?
Gomez is a guy who can fill in on shot notice in an offensive or defensive roll when needed for 1 game. Quite simply he is better in that roll than Lombardi who projects to be there now. Lombardi who we can probably flip for a late round pick as Phoenix is rumored to be interested in him.
