The change of scenary does not imply for Habs to Leafs. Same "****", different names.

We should focus on bringing in Kadri and Coulborne instead.

polls like this should be public so we can see who voted yes (most likely non leaf fans)

The guy really only had one terribad season.

A lot of people were against Lupul being brought here as well.

Ive never been a fan of Gomez, even when he was good.

But we lack at the position he plays. He can't score which we know, but can he still pass? Because we know Kessel can score.

What would be wrong with one year on the cheap? If he sucks, well, he sucks and we can flip him at the trade deadline for a third or something.

He might have something to prove, especially against the habs, and what better team to try and prove it with?

If its cheap and short I wouldn't be horrified by it.

Someone will sign him cheap for the Year. Can't see the Leafs doing it though.

The real funny part is that people are hating all over this yet in another thread a bunch of people are thinking it'd be a good idea to give Redden a chance!

I wouldn't sign either of them but I'd take a chance on Gomez before Redden.

Great to see the feedback this thread has generated.

The results of the poll are more or less what I expected. The reason I made it private instead of public was to get more honest responses, and it's encouraging to see that some (like Cyris and Leaf Army) actual jive with my thoughts on potentially bringing him into the fold, if done cheaply.

Here's more fuel to the fire as he's now been officially put on waivers by the Habs:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=413671

with the new buyout policy, teams can use up one buyout on one player with at least a $3 million average salary this season and incur a full cap hit, less the $900,000 for not burying him player in the minors, but suffer no cap hit next season or beyond.

So MTL takes the full cap hit this season, and none for next year.

Smart move, but now he's pretty much open season, and yes, I believe he will be picked up.

With news of the "accelerated compliance buyout" that MTL have at their disposal:

Should they exercise it, and Gomez clears waivers - if the Buds have a shot at him, would he be worth a look as our #1 center?

We all know he had his issues in MTL, but if a change of scenery is all he needs to be that mighty mouse force he used to be in NJ, then just maybe?

That's messed up even asking that question...

Don't think Gomez brings anything to the team that the Leafs don't already have...and he takes up a roster spot that could be used by a young forward. Not interested in seeing him in the Blue and White.

The 13th forward, where he would probably be isn't a spot I would want to see taken up by a young forward. Sitting in the press box playing sporadically wouldn't be good for their development.

If done properly it would be a no risk scenario with the potential for a good reward.
