Beau Hossler was -6 through 5 at the Wyndham.

Parred the 6th to ruin his sub 18 under pace.

Edit: finished with a -10 (60). Parred the last three to miss out on the sub-60 round.

Played in PEI this past weekend....Crowbush, Brudenell and Dundarave. But the real story is this one that one of my golf buddies just sent me...

How's this for a story? A friend of XXXX at work, his parents know another family with a kid in their early 20's. That kid and two buddies went to Cabot this past week as a threesome. They end up getting paired up with a fourth. Don't we all love that? But they were confused when the check in desk told them their round was paid for. So they go to the first tee and who is standing there? Adam Sandler. Played the round with them and then it turns out he paid for their accommodations and their round the next day. Helluva a story!

My brother works at Cabot Cape Breton. Can confirm this is a real story

I was out there to see him last month. Played Cabot Links, Cabot Cliffs, Cape Breton Highlands and Fox Harb’r.

Unbelievable 5 days. We played sunset rounds on both Links and Cliffs. Top 5 moment of my life.

Hoping the community can point me in the right direction here -- i know we have a lot of avid golfers here.

Im finally in a new role that allows me to be away from work a bit more, and the baby is finally becoming a little more manageable, so i've started playing with a few friends. Im obviously terrible but im hoping some of you may be able to help with a few things:

1) Did you take lessons? If so, how helpful were they? I keep being told that you just have to get out there, but I also cant really pinpoint what im doing wrong. Curious to hear if anyone has had experiences here -- good or bad.

2) what sort of training aids do you use/did you use when you were starting? Ive seen and heard about so many different things that people use (backyard nets, medicus, etc), but with mixed opinions on results. Open to anything that may have worked for you in the past for any specific part of the game -- i need work on it all.

I took lessons. and went to summer camps, when I first started, when I was like 12, but other than that, I just played. Might not be a bad idea to see if you can get a handful of lessons somewhere which will allow you to work on your set-up, positioning and help hammer down a swing, but I feel like once you've got that squared away, you should be good to go.

As far as training, I feel like hitting into a net is pointless. You're so close to the net that you can't get a good idea of your ball flight. How much room do you have in your backyard, do you have a park nearby that you could go to? If so, I would take a look at this, or heck, you could probably just go to Home Depot and buy them: BirdieBalls I have them and bust them out from time to time. I'd say they are pretty accurate in simulating a golf ball. I've certainly hit some off the hosel of the club before and they take a pretty similar path. They only go a max of 40 yards, and less with the higher lofted clubs. They also make a great putting rug that you can get to run at different speeds. I've got one that is 3'x26' that I have in the basement; used it a lot in my single life during covid, not as often as I'd like nowadays. You can get a smaller one to help with putting

If you want to hit into a net, and want to spend money on a launch monitor, but not spend $15k like some of them cost, look into this one: MLM2PRO™ + PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP
You download their app and then you can play courses or hit the range all while hitting into a net in your backyard, or in your house, if you have tall enough ceilings

So I played a lot as a younger teen -- never had lessons during that time. But I got back into it during the end of 2018, right before the COVID boom. I first started up by watching youtube training videos for 3 years or so. The channel I watched mostly was Eric Cogorno Golf, which I recommend . Eric Cogorno offers online lessons where you video your swing each month and send it in for review from coaches. There are also stock videos online that are very helpful.

In 2022, I signed up for the online lessons. It's 60/month, which is usually much cheaper than a golf pro. I still do it, although I no longer send my swing in on a monthly basis. It's worth it for sure.

When it comes to training aids, most of the useful aids are household items, or super cheap. You can buy orange demarcation sticks for 2 bucks and use them as alignment sticks. I recommend having a few alignment sticks, and actually use them.

I learned when i was in my 20s. I had lessons when i first started. I just hit my 8 iron for the guy for like 4 hours. It helped in setting me up at the ball consistently and moving my feet and position depending on what the ball was doing, which allowed me to make adjustments to my swing while out on the course.

I take lessons at GolfTec. They have a bunch of locations. You can get an initial evaluation where they spend an hour with you. review your swing and go over their process. Then you decide if you want to go forward or not. Lessons are all on a simulator with video front and side. I find it very helpful to be able to see what I'm doing. The coach can draw on the video to show you where you want to be moving, or lining up, or whatever you are working on. He will also pull up video of other golfers, or drills, etc. They have an app, and he sends me a package of videos after each lesson with stuff to work on.

They also do club fitting. I got a new driver, based on my swing and what we are working on, which made almost as much difference as the first few lessons.

Never took a lesson before. Just picked up the club and swung what felt natural. Became good enough to win club championship for my 16-17 year old age group. Then didn't play for about a decade before starting it up again.

I would take a lesson if you are not comfortable with what you are doing. It can be a frustrating sport for sure. Having a positive attitude helps..."you are just getting your money's worth by taking more strokes than others".

A big thing for me is chipping. Learning to bump and run the ball saves lots of strokes and can get you 1 putts. Read the green and treat it like a putt.

Getting a consistent tempo to your swing is the key building block. You build out from there
