I don't think there are any city/town owned rinks, at least in the American West.

I can speak for the state of Arizona only on this, but Jay Lively Activity Center in Flagstaff as well as the Tucson Convention Center in... well, Tucson, are city-owned, but the TCC is operated by a private company (I couldn't find any information on the operation of Jay Lively). All six rinks in the Phoenix area are private. The city of Glendale owns Gila River Arena, but that doesn't really count.

It's the small details that make the difference. I was at that game and it was a low point in my hockey watching career. Great lineup but..............Ron Duguay? Mike Liut in net? And Tretiak standing on his head. I know that the shots on goal were pretty even but I remember Tretiak taking the wind out of Canada's sails in the first period. We never recovered.

Deja vu in Hamilton when the Russians scored the first 3 in the 1st period. Happily a better end result for Canada in that game.
The thought of any one player or team being able to take the wind out of Gretzky and Robinson is just something I can't even fathom.

I see. May be a stupid question, but are the rinks in Flagstaff and Tuscon used for hockey or is it mostly public skates or figure skating?

You know what they say about goaltending winning games? Gretzky was in his 2nd or 3rd year and was just gearing up to greatness. I remember Lafleur flying around trying to do everything. Yup, the whole game was hard to fathom. I'll feel better if we get a Junior gold tonight. LOL!

US wins 6-4 with an EN.

I honestly don't know about Jay Lively, but it's home of Northern Arizona University's club hockey team, and has adult and youth hockey programs. Tucson Convention Center is home of the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners, the University of Arizona's club hockey team, and there is a youth hockey program based out of that rink. Not sure if there's adult hockey at TCC, but probably not, since Tucson is pretty close to Phoenix (you can get to the Ice Den in Chandler or AZ Ice Gilbert in a little under an hour and a half from most places in Tucson, so most adult hockey players who live in Tucson probably just drive up to the Phoenix area to play.

I also forgot to mention the Findlay Toyota Center, formerly the home of the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League. It's owned by the city of Prescott (but operated by a private company). They have occasional youth and adult recreational hockey games there, but unlike the other rinks in Arizona, FLT melts the ice at the end of hockey season and re-makes it when it starts back up (Gila River Arena does too but I'm not really including them again because it serves almost exclusively as an NHL and event venue rather than being a community rink open to the public on a regular basis).

I'm somewhat interested to see if Canada gives Zegras any special attention. He's looked like by far the most dangerous player on USA, but Canada isn't really utilizing a shutdown unit. Power on power I guess.

I wondered about that, too, but H.C. probably thinks it's a mistake to mess with what's working.

I think if they have a chance to play him physical they do

Mods are gonna have a hell of a mess on their hands tonight if Canada doesn't win this
No they won't. If they lose, Canadians will be gracious in their defeat and congratulate the winners. Nobody will go around claiming they won when the score says otherwise, or that the game was stolen from them, or that massive cheating was a factor in the loss.
All though... this is all moot since no way in hell is Canada going to lose. Go Canada Go!!!

He's much more likely to be the next Pogge, that's why.
That's a pretty dogmatic and definitive statement to make. How do you know that? You don't. Lots of perceived locks to make it big in the NHL have been failures and many stars have come out of nowhere. Right now I like his chances better than Knight. Knight is good but he's not great. Levi has been great.

Goes without saying by far the biggest test for the Drysdale-Byram pairing. May not see the perfection from them we've gotten used to.

These are my wishes for tonight:

-Canada wins gold!
-Both USA GA senatorial elections end blue and DEMS control the senate.

Would have a good night sleep after that.
