Bonham was absolute gold, theres really not a lot you can say about it, he just had that touch.

Not meaning that specific to only you Canadian true rock'n'roll/icehockey bro' ... but for the rest of the world that don't even nearly know the rock'n'roll jive nowadays; what it seems (anyway)! If ya see what I mean.

Led Zeppelin is still pretty huge in Canada.

Exit stage ... left; and there'll be a gold-medal waiting for you Canada ... but one step wrong and you're gonna get blown away by Finland - but no Rush, remember?

Now when these tournament first timers of FEL have managed to market Liiga better than anybody ever before, it suddenly rose my mind how cool their names generally sound if translated to English (among various "Ball Clubs of"): Ermines of Oulu, Poleaxe of Tampere, Sword of Kuopio, Lynx of Tampere, Aces of Pori, Rauma's Lock, Kouvola's Puck, Vaasa's Sport... Front page | Liiga

Thats fortunate. Imagine if Finnish Handball league rosters would make it the these kind stages of international prominence. There are some teams with names that are written exactly as they sound in English: Cocks and Dicken particularly, among rather lame variety of names including 'IFK'. Käsipallon SM-liiga

IMO, marketability should easily override the historical value and esteem of some Team name, if it doesn't work well in international translations.

Liiga changed it name apparantly at least partially because of easy misinterpretation of prefix abbreviation "SM" that is associated more likely with sado-masochism than Suomen Mestaruus ('Finnish Championship'). Anyway, this Team Finland has gone rather HC in bondage of elite NHL offences.

uh... OT!

Edit: error corrected

And for those sports-nerds on both sides of the pond that are wondering what flower rock'n'roll power what we even are talkin' about; then it's this:

... and picture this if Finland win!

Why does Kärpät need to change beast?!

McGuire reminds me of Leo Silolahti, an old-school Finnish sports journalist and all-round delightful guy who was congenitally unable to pronounce foreign names (and for him, "foreign" started at "Timo Blomqvist"). His attempt at "Steve Yzerman" is an enduring classic.

Well, to Mika Saukkonen, Marchessault's name has around 30 different pronunciations that he cycles through every game.

I'm sure many of you know that when Real and Barca meet on the soccer pitch, the match is called "El Clasico". Finnish handball people took inspiration and started calling this matchup "El Romantico". No joke.

Yeah. Reality is always more wonderful than a tale.

They must have rather high developed self sense of self irony. Handball teams Cocks and Dicken playing in legendary derby called "El Romantico". Lol!

Finnish player names are also nice when translated into English, from this team for example Savinainen = Claywoman

Real(?!) 'eavy stuff there by Finland standards I mean.

I think you need to rewatch that game then, I mean cmon man.

I know there is going to be some bravado from both sides and hot takes claiming this and that concerning todays results before game time but let's not go overboard here. I wouldn't be able to take myself seriously if I came in here and said I thought the Russians were the better team all around against the Finns yesterday. I can't make stuff up just because I am cheering for Canada in this tournament.

.

nah my motives are not that I'm being an over enthusiastic finnish fan. I just thought Czechs were playing better but were outplayed by Murray. Sometimes goalie just steals the game. I think Murray had like 40 saves and most of them were great ones.

Well, we (Finland) are bad when we are not damn evil and mean.

And we know it.

In sports that is.

Otherwise we are actually the happiest people on earth right about now; and just understand that even ya sour Swedes!

A little payback time for the times you (Sweden) did spit on us poor Finns when we moved to your country after World War II ... after we had protected your fat ass against the Russians on our own. Otherwise you had Putin as your next door neighbour right about now. Thanx for nothin' Sweden, by the way.

That's why I dig Canada so much more than Sweden (and of course Russia!) in hockey. Can you dig it?

Even there would be no politics in these forums.

Finland is the world’s happiest country – again

Canada had it pretty easy last night and are icing a superior lineup.

Hopefully Finland has a great start and get momentum going.

I will be extremely impressed if they can adapt and change their strategy to beat Canada. If they play like yesterday I don't see them scoring more than 1 (MAYBE 2 goals) against Canada with Murray. Canada should be good for at least 2, even if Finland plays tight again.

Finns don't need to change anything. They had 29 shots against Russia and NHL's best goaltender against them. They even had a goalpost and a situation generated by Kakko where the puck was on the goal line.

Your chainsaws are the best!

My 15yo wants to move to Finland. He read some article about how they have a highly rated school system, but seem to do it with little testing.
